Today I thought i'd try something new, so I went for some long exposure practice.

I dint really have the equipment for it. I have been saving up for a decent macro, but getting a bit sick of counting my pennies so I resorted to a +4 close up filter on my nifty fifty.

The exposure time is the time it takes to make toast.

Please batter my pictures, I want to know every way I can improve these my long exposures, and any tips you have I will always be grateful for.

Some tips on lighting would be helpful, exposure on this was kind of hit and miss and took a lot of attempts.

Hi Luke, welcome to TP. Well the two shots are well-exposed with a good DOF. I can see what the point of the exercise was, but my question would be why? With long exposure you want to capture a moving object(s). Well if you had exposed for long enough all that would have happened would be the second hand blurred across the watch face, which would have taken out the detail of the watch face itself? I think your technique is ok, but maybe re-think the subject perhaps?

Thanks Rob.

Looking back on it, I have to agree. The main aim was for me to get my head round a few things, and learn the long exposure features and capabilities of my D80. This was quite a challenge, as i'm lacking a remote, and filter. I had to improvise with light sources around me. That said, I did learn a lot doing this, and next time I will apply it to a better subject :).
