With a fast moving upper air, warm surface temperatures and high dewpoints over the UK, I expect some nasty storms to break out over the UK. The Midlands and Wales are places most likely to catch them but I won't rule out anywhere else around the country catching something quite dramatic as we go into the day.
More settled tomorrow, though. Due to the uncertainty of today's forecast I had to wait until right at the last minute to issue such a warning with high confidence.
Be safe if you are planning to chase and capture storms.

Well forecast, we now have thunder, lightening and its raining - I was supposed to be collecting my car today but no way am I going 6 miles on a bike in this!!

still lovely here, very sunny and warm :(

Fingers crossed for some storms later on tonight while at work :D

It smells like it's going to kick off very soon here. There's definitely a storm smell in the air.

Oh and it's actually starting now.

As expected, isolated thunderstorms are already kicking off around the Midlands area as I type this at 2.30 pm. They're quite small at the moment but they've got a nasty sting to them.
Expect some big bangs and deluges around the Midlands, then the lot should move eastwards to bring some nasty stuff to the east coast of England later on this afternoon before the lot will die away as we go into the evening.

nothing here yet:)

Nottingham - 1x mindbuggering roll of thunder but no rain... yet.

Nothing here, it's been pretty clear. There's some patches of clear blue in amongst the clouds at the mo... feels like we could really do with a good storm though.

We had one hell of a storm here this afternoon. It lasted about 30-40 mins and had some large hail , heavy rain, plenty of loud thunder and lots of lightning.

Edit: It seemed to move off South Easterly, but I suspect it will only go as far as North Norfolk before heading out to sea. Though I'm no expert

I really, really hope you have taken pictures of it!

Indeed, my forecast of storms breaking out across the UK is proving to be spot on accurate (bearing in mind I never look at the telly forecasts) as I'm getting reports of nasty storms left right and center. Actually, it's all mostly running along in a line to the east of the UK.
There is another cluster of storms rattling along the south west and that should move eastwards affecting the southern coast as we go into the rest of the afternoon.

So is there any more due on the east coast Ian? I might have to get the hubby to help me set up upstairs now he's home if there is. I'd like to have a bash at some lightning shots :D

Jo, this one has just passed through heading NNE ish so could be with you in a couple of hours.

No rain here yet but stormy looking skies and a few rumbles of thunder(wasn't gonna risk staying out in the woods )

From where I'm sitting, it looks like you'll catch another one or two sharp showers over the next couple of hours, but I think the worst is over for your location.
It looked like the whole thing formed into a neat organised line running along the east coast of the UK and the lot is slowly moving out into the North Sea.
But there are still plenty of storm-related activity over the bulk of the country but I have a feeling things are now starting to be "capped" as high pressure begins to move in.

Ian am I right in thinking this is perfect funnel cloud weather?

Yep, there have been reports of funnel clouds spotted in some of those storms. The trouble is, while they are quite common, they are very fleeting things and may often be hidden by a curtain of heavy rain or hail.
However, here in the UK, complete "twisters" that actually touches the ground are rarer.

Crap.
Why do we never get it down here :bang:

It's much the same here. :D Clear blue skies with no cloud for miles around, along with wall-to-wall evening sunshine. :p
A part of the East Midlands is still being affected by a vicious thunderstorm as I type, with lightning and torrential downpours resulting in localised flooding.

Nothing here in Manchester. Heard a very little rumble at 2:45ish. Saw a little bit of rain at 3:10

Had a nap at 4 :p

I shouldn't complain really I guess!
I always feel guilty when I moan about the weather being nice

Beautiful day today though. Very warm and sunny!!

not had neither rumble or rain in my side of manchester :D

Disappointing. Big build up, massive let down.

:lol::lol: was just searching for this smiley:
1923_tantrum.gif
so that I could stamp my feet and have a tantrum that we haven't got any and we've just had two claps of thunder :D

Hell of a series of bangs near Wymondham (10 miles south west of Norwich)

In fact I got in about 90 seconds before a lightning ball/bolt landed across the road, could easily have struck me ***now where's an emoticon showing brown boxers :lol:***

Hi,
Sorry as usual no sodding camera on me!, we get quite a few around this bit of coast but 1st time actually I have seen one touch down. It seems to head into Luce bay area and then change direction which is pretty weird. We had a delivery later in the day and the driver saw the same one while on his break and he told me about a very strange orange/peachy coloured waterspout up nr Girvan last week in very similar conditions?
Never really taken much interest in weather until we moved out in the wilds and after having our roof ripped off 2 years ago in gales you tend to take notice!
I will have a ring round to see if any of my mates got photo's as they live nearer to the Mull so have camera's handy.
Cheers
Brian

Which side is that Ste ???

There was a stonking storm over Stockport tonight from about 6pm for about 45 mins. Cloud to cloud lightning, some right over our house in the Grove with only a second before the thunder kicked in. Next door's greenhouse nearly caved in after that one

Then the mother of all showers started straight after and has washed me car.

4 hours later I return. Internet just cut off after 2nd or 3rd thundering :(
