Thunderbolt to kill Mac Pro range?

I'm just thinking of upgrading my server motherboard as it has a couple of extra features I want. Apart from the 4xUSB3 ports, it has 10 SATA3 ports (and 2 gigabit NICs and 6 PCI-e slots at x4 or wider)... Cost: £125.

REALLY???? That's just insane....

That's putting gently. TBH USB3 is not really expected on macs as Apple have hedged their bets with Thunderbolt as the interface for large fast transfers, but I'll be damned if I'm going to buy a Thunderbolt equipped drive which, from the models I've seen, are 3-4 times more expensive than the USB3 equivalents - even if they're from the same manufacturer.

However not including SATA3 is a major omission, especially when you consider that the latest iMacs have supported SATA3 at 6Gbps Since a firmware update middle of last year.

Basically apple haven't done anything with the Mac Pro other than pop a faster processor and GPU in it. Everything else appears to be the same. In fact I'd bet it's possible to take the processors and GPU's from the new models and put them in the previous model and the previous model will perform exactly as the new model.

I think that they may just keep it but all their resources went onto the laptops this time. They need to do something with the video etc to insert thunderbolt etc

They are probably waiting for me to build my new computer so they can steal all my ideas :D
