Have to say the guy I spoke to at Jessops in the Headrow at Leeds was ace (wish I could remember his name). He spent time talking me through the pros & cons of both the Canon & Nikon I was looking at. Not pushy at all. All in all a good experience.

If there was a down side it was walking out of the shop carrying my nice new Canon 500D Tamron 70-300 lens and accessories in a Nikon bag (oh Sh!t i've already dropped into the Canon v Nikon debate) :)

nice,as for my experience, not so good with the online part of the business, the last 2 times I tried ordering both times they messed up with the prices so ended up cancelling the order but they did ring and tell me so not all bad.

ok I have to ask, what made you go for the canon?

The Canon felt/seemed easier to use.

 Bringing the camera bag for my Canon 550D back on the bus, I made sure the Nikon side of the carrier bag was facing the seat so no one thought I used Nikons.

(I jest.)

lol so you got the poor sod in the shop to run though every tiny difference between the two, then said I'll take the canon,it feels better  NO wonder you are praising him,he must have patients of a saint.JK

+1 for Jessops, I felt like I had a good service from them at the Guildford store when I got a new Nikon a couple of months ago.

I knew what I wanted when I went in and was prepared with a list of prices from online stores. They were willing to do some discount on everything I was buying and weren't to far off the cheapest I could get from the online stores I would actually have bought from.

I've been to two stores (Tamworth and Birmingham) and they have both been of excellent service, I get along really well with them and they even like it when I just pop in for a quick chat!

The only time I've had bad service is when they had a stupid part time woman who had no idea about cameras apart from what the average joe would know and tried to miss-sell me and other customers items that weren't fit for purpose! luckily she only worked for the Christmas shift

+1 for jessops when buying a 5d mark ii with 24-105kit lens and 2 580ex speedlights!
I rang round sever shops in my area bouncing from one to another with the prices jessops won. i spoke with the manager and also got him to chuck in a 8gb sandisk extreme!
mind you the lot came to £2900 but that was better then online prices and everywhere!

I find my local Jessops ( Taunton) helpful - BUT expensive when you compare them to Amazon etc

Les ;)

In Dundee, we only have Jessops, not other high street retailer or independent retailer. The prices are usually prohibitive and they dont seem to carry much stock. In 10+ times recently I've been in to have a look at something/buy something they have never had what I was after (nothing too obscure either). Occasionally there is a helpful member of staff but this does not seem the norm.

But alas, not much choice in the matter being the only local retailer. I do tend to purchase online though.
