Just finishing the Upload Image script for my new site, and was wondering what people think an ideal thumbnail size would be? I am thinking about quite a large thumb, something at least 300 pixels wide...

What do you guys think?

Gary.

mine are small, about 120 on the longest side

I think it depends on the page design of your website. Don't forget, it's best to create separate, smaller images for your thumbnails rather than just resizing images using HTML on the page. Otherwise they'll take longer to load.

Mine are 100 x 66, and some are 100 x 75 (Pictures taken before I had a DSLR!! ;))

The upload script will create two copies, one of which will be the reduced size thumbnail, and the other the untouched original image.

I think I will go for 200 wide, allowing 3 per row on my design...

More shortly!!

Gary.

For the record, if anyone wants a copy of what I have written, they are welcome to it. A basic understanding of C# & .NET, as well as access to a .NET web server will be required.

Heres what will happen on upload:

1. Browse for image & press upload
2. Image will be stored twice. Once as a thumbnail, once as original.
3. A new dynamic HTML file will be generated, and linked to from the main site.

This will mean simply choosing to upload an image will also increase the links and size of your site. Should be a great way to build a massive site with no real input other than nice photo's :)

Gary.
