:( Well, yesterday, my bag toppled off the table. I had put it there whilst we were visiting friends of my brother’s. I opened it and was going to change lenses but didn’t as was told there were some great birds likely to c9me into the garden. Put the camera back in, with 100-400 attaches and about 5 sec9nds later thud. Camera switches on ok but wouldn’t talk to the lens. Getting that off was tricky and now nothing will mount to it not even a lens that didn’t take the fall. I have emailed both Don Clark and Lehman’s to see what they quote. I have gold CPS membership but to be honest am not sure what that means as this has never happened to me before.

If anybody has any advice, please chime in. I haven’t mentioned my insurance in the emails to the repairers mentioned above. Thanks for looking.

Hi
Sorry to hear about your misfortune.

If you have CPS Gold membership go straight to Canon Elstree

Hi David. Can you tell me why you think that? I had always imagined that they would also charge premium rates and they are on the other side of the country for me. Would Lehman’s in Stoke, as Canon accredited service people, be obliged to offer the same? We fly back on Thursday and land on Friday.
Thanks for helping.

A big upsetting oops. At least it didn’t land on concrete and happen 3 days after we arrived.

They won't be able to quote meaningfully without seeing the damage.

It means you get a faster service from Canon at Elstree than non-CPS members - a guaranteed 3-day turnaround.

H Lehmann and Don Clark won't treat you differently because you're a CPS member, but Canon will. They don't charge extra for CPS fast-turnround jobs though.

I have always used Canon Elstree and found them excellent and not too expensive. In fact, the first time I used them, before I was a CPS member they repaired so much of my 100-400 it ended up with a new serial number, but still only charged the standard rate for a service. I am just about to send my 5D3 off to them in the next few days.

Thanks for these posts. You are right about seeing it. One wants me to send it, another wants to talk to me. So, if speed is their main thing at Elstree, and speed is not a factor as I have another body I can use, perhaps I will stay local. I have to speak to the insurance company before I do anything when I get back. I think they must be on a break. The other thing I am reluctant to do, is send my kit through the post / courier it as it has been bashed enough already!

Small print - subject to parts availability, but of course they may lend you a lens whilst yours is being repaired, depending on membership level.

They are still very good though and pay for postage and fully insure items in transit (both ways).

I have used them a few times and they (Elstree) have been brilliant.
