Three roaming costs

Has anyone tried roaming on three recently as i'm amazed at what they charge for roaming in Europe!

They always seem to go on about what good value they are, which they ARE in the uk, but just be careful if you ever roam with them!

A few months ago I switched from EE to three as I was fed up with EE's high cost per minute, typically 30p per minute on EE vs only 3p on three, but the "sting in the tail" with three is the absurd roaming costs for data...... 20p per mb!

Most providers seem to offer a "roaming bundle" but not three it seems! Luckily I still have my old EE sim so I can swap it out when I arrive and get a "30mb for 24 hours" bundle for £3 which is only 6p per mb but this is a bit of a faff having to juggle sims.

I bet a lot of three customers have a nasty shock when they go abroad!

Three offers a Europass, a bit steep but it's a daily as-much-as-you-can-eat data pack. I tend to only buy it every two/three days or if I specifically need to access something.

Or if you're visiting some European countries, Three run your regular monthly allowance at no extra charge.

No shock tome, I read the Three website before travelling..

Thanks for the info about the europass, but on closer inspection this seems to be limited to contract customers only, so payg end up paying the maximum possible legal eu rate of 20p per mb. Mind you i'm sure that the legal limit is 0.2 EUROS rather than GBP so it looks like three could be bending the rules here in their favour. Pity really as I much prefer three to any other network (tried them all at some time) for UK use.

I believe there's an add on for payg that allows you to then use Europass

Three has been brilliant when I am abroad. No roaming charges when I was in New York. Nothing in France. And there will be no roaming charges when I am in Spain in June. Awesome!

Looks like the reputation websites have caught on to this thread.

Difficult for a bot to amass 6000+ posts...

I'm on three and travel for work quite a bit. I read their website, know the charges and control myself accordingly. I am on contract, but a 30day rolling sim only and pay £13 a month. Quite a lot of places are free, some pay per day, my big bugbear is that Germany aren't on the feel at home tariff!

On another note, I didn't realise there were people that wished to use roaming data still on pay&go!!

I thought that's what he was alluding to. Well I just hope he has the cojones to aplogise. I have the same 30 day sim only as you. Great value for money.

In the past I have used both "contract" and "payg" plans and much prefer the level of control that payg gives as there is never any risk of running up a big bill ESPECIALLY when roaming!

It's amazing in their feel at home countries but a bit pricy elsewhere. I live half the time in the Czech Rep. and it's about 20p per min to make calls but a lot less to receive. I only turn data on when I need it for a day and do the £5 europass thing. The EU is supposed to be treated as one market by the end of this year i.e. no roaming charges, fingers crossed it happens but the mobile companies aren't happy about it!
