I did do a forum search, to see if this has already been posted. ( Nothing came up )

Is anyone going to try and get photos of the three ships? The missus wants to go and see them, so obviously a very good opportunity for me to get the camera out. Apparently the best place to view the ships, is from New Brighton ( Perch Rock ) . Just wondering what the crowds will be like?

Crowds will be horrendous. Extra trains all day. No public parking anywhere near the waterfront. The world and his friend are going. I know people from Southport who are going for a two night holiday to New Brighton.
I could easily watch them sail up the river but the hassle of getting a good stance rules it out. All that shoving and pushing for little more than snaps is not worth it for me. I missed the chance to go out on the ferry to see them at sea together.
I'm going to watch it on telly. I'll see more!

We were thinking of going over to New Brighton, but as you said every one else will be going .... Will probably have a venture out on the day and if things are as congested as expected, might just veer off and go to the local park.

I'm planning on going further up the river to get a view all the way out to the Bay. I'm hoping to do a Timelapse of them coming up the river and sorting themselves out to line up together. Hopefully the crowds won't be bad that far up the river. :)

Where are you thinking of going? There's virtually no parking even as far north as Crosby. Nearest train station is Hall Road - if you can get on one, but if you're coming north that won't be a problem. I was thinking of going to the Coastguard station but it's a fair walk from the trains - even if I can get on one!
When the giants came the trains were full leaving Southport! !!
Formby Point might be an idea with a long lens.

Wow - I hadn't heard about this.

If i was back in Warrington I'd have popped along but too far for me from up here.

Probably lots of others thinking the same. I was thinking the Seacombe end might be better, but again probably many others thinking this also.

Would be great to get something on the day, either photos or video clips. Red Arrows doing a fly past, rare event red arrows and the three ships in one place.

I think I will have a nosey, and if the crowd and traffic situation is horrendous, I will turn back.

Well this morning it's p***ing down, and visibility is poor.
Unless there is a dramatic improvement few on the shore will see much, and the Red Arrows won't be flying.
Should be plenty of spaces to set up a tripod!

Although I think the main event when all ships meet, is on Monday. Will go on Monday with a picnic, and if it really is chaos will give it a miss.

Will go the park instead and get photos of the ducks bobbing on the lake. If so we will try and convince ourselves that we had a much better time, doing that instead !

The published, so approximate, timetable is this...
Queen Mary 2 arrives today - Sunday - at 9AM. (Just about now). The following day - Monday - she will leave the Pier Head and go out into the channel to meet the other two ships. They will then return to the liner terminal about noon. Lots of variables so what exactly will happen is anyone's guess.

A fuller timetable is here:-

Thanks for all that info and link. The Monday event is the one my missus wants to see. Probably the one everyone else wants to see.

I'm thinking of going down to take a few shots. My plan was to get there early by parking away and walking to whatever view point I choose. Set up and then just chill and wait.
Was thinking about perch rock light house.
Any one else?

I have hear there's no parking at the Coastguard station, looks like I'll have to take the dog somewhere else to walk :( tomorrow

Coastguard station is given over to blue badge holders. All roads nearby are no parking.
Swap the dog for a horse and ride down!!!

That was our plan, me and the missus normally take the dog to Perch Rock. Traffic can be a pain at the best of times. But looks like no parking any where near. Wonder if people will try and park in Morrisons, after they have done a bit of shopping that is.

Just now catching little snippets of news on the TV and having a look on the net, before we set off and fight with the traffic and crowds! Looking forward to going, but dreading the slog of it all. Wheelchair user ( my missus ) tripod and cameras, and bag of refreshments and massive crowds with heavy traffic don't mix !

As above^^^^If your missus has a blue badge go to Crosby coastguard station. The car park is reserved for them. If you're going you can pick me up!!!!

There was a similar event in Southampton last year - Queen Mary 2's 10th birthday - and the crowds were horrendous. It was well worth the effort though :)

We were set on going to New Brighton as we have family over that way, and if things were too bad we would have stopped at theirs till things died down. Yes would have picked you up if we were going that way :)

Crowds were pretty heavy, but we expected it. Parking was insane, with all local roads closed off to visitors.

Not long got back from New Brighton, home traffic was terrible! But it was a reasonably good day, did not manage to get any decent photos of the ships after all, apart from a few quick photos. I took the photos while I was double parked and while standing on the sill of the car leaning on the roof, result shaky photos! I then went on to the beach with loads of others all of us with cameras on tripods, waiting for the Red Arrows. We thought they were going to fly down the river past Perch Rock, but they came and went from a different direction!

The Police were very nice and polite, and said they have been told not to issue tickets today. They even said park on the yellow lines so long as I do not cause an obstruction, but to keep an eye out for council enforcement officers. Really good rare event, even though we did not see the whole event three ships together.

Not long got back. Had to walk back from the city centre as all the Buses were full. And this was after leaving it for over an hour before leaving. The city centre must have been mental.

I got to the place I wanted about 15 minutes late because they changed the normal Bank Holiday train times. Good that they went more frequent, every 20 mins instead of every half hour, but it meant I missed a train.

There was space were I went, and I had a good view. Started taking pics for Timelapse, and realised as they were half way up the river that they were going to be closer, and further across the river because the tide was out than I expected, so had to re-set. Tripod got nudged a couple of times, so I'll have to see the effect of that. Then a battery died, and this was the supposedly good one, the proper Nikon battery rather than a compatible. Almost everything that could have gone wrong bar the camera not working.:LOL:

Got to put them in the computer and see if anything turned out.

It was a great thing to see though, especially the boats turning on the spot mid river. The Red Arrows fly past was just that, a fly past, just turning the smoke on as they crossed the river. Would have been nice if they had then turned around and went up or down the river.

Amazing amount of people on both sides of the river as far as I could see.

I kept getting a good little spec, and no sooner had I done so someone got in front of us! My missus uses a wheelchair, and she is convinced she would not have seen anything from the Liverpool side. This is due to people standing in front of her, as she says all she sees is bums and heads. I did not get anything worth posting, images were very poor. Maybe you got something worthy of posting :)

To be honest I would have been far better getting people shots, I managed to get loads unintentionally

I didn't bother at all. Saw it on TV and there were more folk than I would have been comfortable with. Sorry to have missed the spectacle and glad that there has been yet another boost go the city.

Leaving politics aside Liverpool is once again a vibrant bubbling place to be.

Don't like big crowds myself, but everyone was very good natured. Although a lot of drivers were getting very irate, understandable due to the sheer volume of traffic. As you say a good boost for the city, and they handled it very well.

We had a great day, went by train which was obviously touch and go until the last minute. The front was rammed, we ended up in front of the museum and visibility was poor due to the crowds but with the help of live view I think I got some reasonable pictures. All-in-all it was spectacular with a great atmosphere

As you said it was a great atmosphere. But we picked a poor spot, could not see a great deal.

For any other future events, I will do a better appraisal and plan things better.

The Red Arrows were supposed to fly the length of the Mersey. A lot of people were waiting with baited breath cameras at the ready , would they get a shot of them? NO loads did not, they arrived from a different direction, and did not fly down the Mersey!

Apparently there was an apology from the Red Arrows, and announced over the tannoy.

Did they fly the wrong way, or did they simply change plans, for whatever reason ?

It must have had some planning so the various helicopters knew where to get out of the way. They almost caught me by surprise it was only other people pointing that showed me where to look but I managed to get a couple of decent shots.

Big LR session tonight to sort out the wheat from the chaff, I know there are a few blurred ones because for some reason in LV the focus box kept jumping to the bottom of the screen and I couldn't see it because of holding over head and no articulated screen.

Between me and the missus, we had two super zoom compacts and an X10. I got fed up in the end , I just started taking people shots with the Fuji X10.

My missus got loads of people shots unintentionally, she was trying to get one of the ships lol
