Thought this was the help page but it looks like im in the wrong site...or is it a case of if your not in the ring??

Ask a question, the more specific the better (usually) and often some kind souls will try and answer it for you (or argue amongst themselves)

I think Thistle Bandit is referring to a thread he started yesterday and didn't get and replies.

This was his post:

A friend of mine has asked if i would take phots of his son's football team's presentation night......

1.A full lenth photo.......4.3 would this be ok at this size 14.42mm? or 45.200mm?
2.A half body photo.....4.3 would this be ok at this size 14.42mm? or 45.200mm?
3.A group photo with all the lads who got a trophy....should i use my wide angle lens for this or just put the setting to 16.9

I am looking for some advice on which lens i should ues
14-42mm? or the 45-200mm? and it will be inside i have an external flash Metz 44 af..or would the built in flash be ok
and also he want's me to print the photos aswell 2 sizes 8x6..10x8...
the reason why he asked me is that the guy that was supossed to be doing it has let him down and it is on sat/day night

Found here: http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?p=3728040#post3728040

I would give advice, but also being a newby, im far from qualified, sorry

Firstly...this is not an authoritive answer and could well be junked, but in the absence of any other reply this is what I would do.

Sounds like you are using TV screen dimensions to visualise the photo 'shape' 4:3 and 16:9?

I don't know 35mmEquiv of your camera, but I would just take both lenses. Often portraits are best shot from a distance but zoomed in, rather than up close and wide angle.

Group photos again I'd probably shoot a bit on the wide side, but would prefer to put distance between the camera and subject not to distort the 'group' - depends on location of course.

External flash is pretty much always preferred, but depends on location, ambient light, size of group, distance to group, power and flexibility of flash - I dare say it could be difficult to get acceptable results.

I'm sure the prints can be cropped to size/shape if those are not the native resolution, so maybe leave some edge space on the shots to trim around if needed.

Oh yeah I read that post but its very confusing, if you want to talk about lenses and lighting I can help but forget all the ratio stuff and print sizes, there's two formats with most dslrs (leaving out the 8x10 option of the D3), portrait and landscape, crop to a different ratio in post.

Agreed - stick the camera in raw, highest resolution you can get out of it, and get on with the job of shooting on the night, then sort crop's etc in photoshop later.

As I understand it, G2 (micro 4/3) has the same sensor size as Olympus 4/3, so the 4:3 ratio is 'native'.
The 35mm eq is likely the same, too, so crop factor of x2.
