Yes
Just a quick question to anyone who has been. I'm going to be doing the 'scary rides' with my daughter, so is my camera a problem or should I leave it behind. My wife has already said she is not looking after it as she will be stuck in a queue with my little boy.

I'd love to be able to take it on the rides, but I'm assuming I won't be allowed to. Are there any lockers?

Any experience chaps?

Graham

Depends how big your camera is. If you want to take the Camera on the rides, make sure its a compact. Not too sure about lockers, I'd ring and check.

I took my Olympus mju 790SW. Its waterproof and small, so i took it on Tidal Wave, Have a look at my video:

I saw staff tell people they cant take cameras on rides, but if your subtle you can get away with it.

Regards,
Matt

...until it flies out of your pocket and smacks someone in the face!!!

Lol at the thought of someone on Stealth holding a DSLR!

It's a 5d and two lenses. I was just wondering if I could physically take them on (in a kitbag), not necessarily take shots. It's difficult to know what to do with it if I can't take it on the rides.

If you have a cheap, old, mostly broken compact one then take that instead of you precious. I wouldn't take the chance.

Not really, only the really slow rides, certainly nothing in which you are 'strapped in', ie roller coasters, high stuff etc, as you couldnt get the bag on the chairs.

Thanks all. I did go on a roller coaster once where I was allowed to keep it by my feet, but maybe things have moved on - gulp!

Are there any lockers does anyone know (so I can at least take it into the part).

Graham

Yeah all the rides where you arnt allowed to carry propery on have lockers or areas where staff keep them safe. I wouldnt be happy leaving a kit bag personally.

Many thanks for the advice peoples. Not what I wanted to hear, but I guess I'll leave the camera in the car. Shame, but better than the stress.

Hope the rides are not too scary!!!

...an alternative is to take someone along who's scared of the rides and they can hold the bag

When you've been on some of the rides you'll see why you cant take any stuff on with you!

Enjoy!

Just asked my mate, he says there are lockers all around the park. The Big lockers are in the 'Dome' after the entrance gates of the park.

there are lockers in the park, however if you go to get on a ride with it you leave it in storage where anyone can pick it up after they come off the ride. (rides are generally 2 carts one after the other so one will get in almost straight after you put your stuff in)

I wouldn't bother. Too risky. Take a compact camera and keep it in a bumbag (Mr. Motivator style, bring back the 80's!)

For something like that a compact the best option. I have used an SLR at a park but it was years like over 20 :lol:ago when things we a lot more tamer it pentax me super and 24 mm prime on a roller coster. These days waterproof compact like the guy with U tube vid

I once took a Pentax me super with motor drive on the corkscrew at Alton towers. I held it to my chest, as we entered the best bit I let loose,:bonk: I have the prints somewhere I will dig them out and scan them, great fun but really not great photography and must have cost £5 or £6 pounds in the early 80's:bonk:

I would leave it.

If you really insist, there are lockers in the dome, and SAW, Stealth, and X: No way Out have storage areas

Having worked at TP in recent years (last year was when stealth was new) I say leave it at home.

You won't be allowed them on any coasters, and are forced to take them with you on the wet rides, which isn't any good either way.

Where your forced to leave them it's at your own risk, and bar stealth it's a free for all. I have been on the receiving end on lots of abuse when stuffs been nicked, and was once assaulted. On stealth you have to give it to a staff member who won't be overly sympathetic and will literally hurl it in a box as it's the only way to keep up with the ride.

On Tidal wave your bag will be on the receiving end of a rather nice soaking, loggers is pretty minimal if your up front and hide it on teh nose and keep the bag off the floor (as there's about 1" of water in there).

I have seen these smashed open on a large number of occasions, I wouldn't use them if you paid me.

If your not going on anything or have a tame bag donkey, then yes take it, other wise head the above.

Only just noticed this, leave it at home. While there is staff on patrol in theory the reality is not always. CCTV isn't overly great either and you could easily break into a car and no one notice/have enough time to make a smash and grab. That said on park crime is a bigger issue, or at least was.

Funny how posts come back to life :D

For the record, I didn't take my camera and am very glad I didn't.

But spent about five hours queuing for about five minutes of rides - should have taken a game!

Graham

I took my camera to a theme park earlier in the year - fortunatly my bag doesn't look like a camera bag but leaving the gear just sitting by the ride left me feeling uncomfortable.

Going to alton towers soon. I'm going on rides in the morning (Camera stays in the car), then taking some photos in the afternoon

Biggest thing worth taking is a p&s that sits on your belt. Anything bigger and you'll be worrying about it and not enjoying the rides.
