this site is not easy to use

Hello and welcome, Chris :)

How about asking a few questions you would like the answers to? There are lots of helpful and knowlegable people here to help if they can. It would be best to give us some info on what you are interested in and what gear you have (if any!) so that you get the most out of the site.

Once you get started the site is pretty easy to use.

Yip. What is it you're having difficulty with, and want to know?

I too think this site is quite difficult to navigate. I've never came across a site with so many sub-forums!

Don't get me wrong. The information contained is great, it's just not easy to find!! :)

Would you like to explain what is causing you difficulty? I'm at a bit of a loss because the forums have pretty self-explanatory titles, and I don't recall many complaints about navigation problems in the past.

Tell us what your issues are and we'll try to help.

Perhaps navigate was the wrong word. It's just that theres so many sub-forums that it's easy to miss replys to your comments.

Just my opinion of course.

If you subscribe to the thread you started you'll get emails keeping you updated to replies and won't miss anything then

In addition to this you can also set it in your user settings to automatically do this though I'd be selective on which ones you want an email about else you risk getting swamped in emails ;)

If you click "My TP" in the top bar and then "Subscribed Threads" it will show all the threads you have posted in (as long as you have your settings set to subscribe to all threads you post to).

OK, I think this is more about familiarity with the way the forums work, than any real dificulty with navigating them.

As MartynD (no, we're not related!) said, you can subscribe to the threads you're interested in and get automatic notification of new posts. I used to do this, but found it can get a bit overwhelming with busy threads. Just click the dropdown arrow beside Thread Tools above the first post, and select Subscribe to this Thread. Alternatively, and the way I prefer, is to use the My TP dropdown right at the top, Your Links and Your Posts.

Hope this helps.

If in doubt, use Talk Basics - it covers everything and if it should be somewhere else the thread can be moved and you can track it via your profile (stats, find threads).

Mods, happy now?

Granted, TP's not as easy to use as some forums, I'm new as well and found it tricky for a while but it soon becomes pretty obvious.
I'd suggest ticking the auto subscribe to posts replied to but not the email facility.
Now when I log on I go straight to subscribed posts, read them then go to New Posts and start reading them. TP is so diverse that you never know what you'll find:thumbs:

It's not so bad you know... I've never joined another photography forum, i joined here and new it was for me, so i don't know what others are like....

Trust me once you've sat and spent just a little bit of time looking around, you'll see it's quite easy....

I get lost easy and if i can manage it's got to be ok... failing that find a corner to sit in, they are quite comfy and occasionally someone will throw you a bit of chocolate....:D

Still think your meringues would be better:D

Oh do you??? You'll get me trouble as those have not been mentioned on TP before :rules:

Oh dear your going to get me a bad reputation round these parts

I don't bother subscribing to threads, as to be honest, I rarely check my emails.

If I want to find a thread i've made/commented on, I click on my username in the top right hand corner, click on the 'statistics' tab, then click on either ''Find all posts by goodwin1234'' or ''Find all threads started by goodwin1234''.

You can subscribe without using the email option. If you go into the User CP - Edit Options menu, it's actually default, subscribe to all threads I post in (no email notification) and then just clicking on My TP - My subscriptions brings them up.

Ahh okay, thanks for that! That'll come in handy:thumbs:

I think with a few more plugins the site would be much better and easier to use, the vBulletin community is massive and you could easily modernise it and make it easier to use. I did suggest recently having a Who's Quoted me button/box/tab/whatever where you can see whos quoted you so you can reply to them, makes things much easier, especially in big threads where you only make the odd post.
Another forum ive seen powered by vBulletin has watched threads on the front page (threads youve posted in or chose to watch), whos quoted me, watched forums (instant link to a specific forum), etc. along with being able to rate posts positively (similar to liking on Facebook).

As someone with experience in web development/design and programming with forums id be more than happy to help test things, research or whatever. Just last time I mentioned it, it kinda got ignored!

Might be a waste considering vBulletin's days on this forum are now extremely numbered.

Exactly, it's likely it was ignored as such this impending change has been worked on at lot, for a long time as I understand it so it would be somewhat of a wasted exercise to implement changes to the current set up  I'm confident the green team would hate to have you feeling ignored

It hasn't been ignored. As others have already said, we are leaving vBulletin imminently but the idea is certainly being looked at for the new forum, so be assured you have not been ignored. Not sure if it will implemented straight away or it's something that will be on the diary schedule of new features that will be added, but it certainly met with fairly universal approval as an idea. ;)

Ah ok, yeah I wasnt aware the forum was changing until this morning. That is good to hear though, it would be nice to see some plugins to enhance the forum :)

If you find something hard to find, ask a question, some one will post a link for you to follow, I've not been using this site very long, not really had a problem, though I am not a stranger to forums of one kind or another.
