Hi,

This is really an odd ball:

I can't quite understand why anybody would want this, as you can buy a well used working 'M' for around the same price.

I suppose a collector might want it, but why buy a camera that doesn't work?? It has no technical merit whatsoever, in this state, it's just an inert lump (albeit a good looking lump) of metal!

I wonder if the lens is real and detachable.

The dummy Oly E-410 I saw on display at PC World the other day was just that, a dummy, although the kit lens came off as normal and appeared to be a working lens in mint condition. (I peeked behind the mirror - there was a square of white paper. :p

(I was only in PC World because I was wandering around bored waiting for my windscreen to be replaced...)

It's a collectors item, and assuming if rare would be highly prized by those interested in the history of Leica, if it's a genuine sales/promotion item.

yeah, the fact it doesn't work but was never made to makes it a real gem to have in a collection. Besides, if you're collecting Leica's £300 is nothing :D

Why do people collect anything? Usually because it's rare (I mean, just look at the stamp collecting world), not because it has any use or intrinsic value.
