Right so my car is off the road for two week + and i finally got it all sorted yesterday and i thought fab i can get out and about now and go where i want to go.

Last night

I drove my mum and dad to badminton, when we left we wanted Chinese so i said i would drive and get it, on the way there on what has got to have been the longest road to the shop a man coming the other way sat with his high beams on, I flash my high beams at him and he still don't take them, off so i do it again and again, and again and he still doesn't take it off. He never took them off all the way down the road :cuckoo:

Today

I got up this morning and thought "right, I'll give the car a spray to get the condensation off of it then go for a ride to get some petrol and take a drive in to town to see what was going on and see if there was anything special to photograph there. This is where another rant comes from, there is a blind bend which i slowed down to go around as i know people are not the greatest of slowing down enough for that bend and i am pretty lucky i did slow down, as i get half way in to the bend a Mercedes comes around the corner near enough on my side of the road, he was going pretty quick as well, i have to brake to miss him. It's not a unfamiliar in Norfolk.

Okay rant over

Meh.

Incident 1: Driver was a cock, but that's life.

Incident 2:

near enough on my side of the road
Near enough probably means he was near to the white lines, in which case no harm no foul tbh. If he was over the lines, he's a peckerhead, I had an accident like that.. 7.5t truck came round a corner too fast, took my whole drivers side out and demolished the car.

I nearly had a mega near miss today, as it goes.. Me in the fast lane of the A1, driver comes down slip road, across 3 lanes of traffic nearly right into my front nearside quarter, if I hadn't have stepped heavily on the middle peddle, he'd have been in the central reservation and I'd have been god knows where.

The thing to remember when driving is:

my dad said:
All other road users are idiots and will do the unexpected, so you should drive accordingly.

dude, come to London and drive around for a day.. Then when you go back to Norfolk you wont even notice when someone nearly drives on your side of the road.

some idiot (in an audi convertable) was behind me at the lights yesterday. The cross roads has a yellow hatched box and i couldnt enter it because there were cars blocking the exit. So the guy in the Audi just sits there honking and swearing because i'm not moving.. You just get used to that kinda crap and get over it until the next episode 5 mins later.

Word!

I took my test in London. For one lesson the instructor made me drive from Leytonstone, through the city to Knightsbridge and back on a Friday Lunch time. He did it so 'cos he didn't think I was using my mirrors enough

Yeah, I always move out to the middle lane when there is a junction coming up

I've drove in London a couple of times but i don't see them sort of things because they don't annoy me  But i know what you mean

Go and drive in Riyadh or Paris then you will understand bad driving!!!!!!!!

I learned to drive in Norfolk.. It's great. There are some bits where there is so little traffic you can go over 40mph! And 8 miles takes 10 mins instead of an hour

Yeah, I always move out to the middle lane when there is a junction coming up

you should only do that if there is something coming and going to get stuck by you, not everytime. just irritates people and clogs up the other lanes;)

Irritates people? well I'm sorry, the fast lane is the one on the right, not the middle so as you do, if you want to go round them you go in the fast lane..... :P

Another rant

Why do people insist on flashing there headlights in just normal flow traffic? I take the flashing of the headlights as i have done something wrong or been doing something wrong or they are warning me of something back where they have come from, so it leaves me driving slowly in case anything is there and it is just annoying me now :bang:

I once drove a 7.5 ton lorry to Kensington all the way there without any problems but once in london I was collecting wing mirrors and one of an exceptionally expensive and mege star owned lambo lol

Hmmm....sounds familiar........

Coming back from the shop today just as i was coming though my village there is like a building that has a pretty big step around it and the step sticks out in the road. So i've gone to go around it and man (mid 60's i would say) decided to cut the corner and not leave me any room to get by, i kerbed my wheels and am not a very happy man at the moment. I want to get a tractor and then see if he does it to me, this is really annoying because if there was a cooper there he wouldn't he nicked him he would have nicked me for going up on to the footpath. He was in a pretty big car, i think they should be limited to a 900cc (like mine) and be told to deal with it. they just have not got a clue.

Lucky white heather and aw' that

well since iv been living in liverpool ive been almost knocked down everytime i try to use crossings... they dont seem to understand they are meant to stop at them here lol

No such thing as a fast lane or left/right lane. You are right in overtaking on the right instead of the left though. Undertaking can earn you a fine and points.

Overall I would suggest you go with the flow. All the extra manouvres to gain a few positions ahead of others rarely yields significant speed gain but does increase your risk of collision significantly. :)

How does that sound familiar?:thinking:

Ok that confused me, What?

It's familiar because you always seem to be complaining about other drivers running you off the road/getting in your way. You need to learn to anticipate the actions of other road users.

What's the bet both these other drivers went home complaining about some kid in a white Corsa on their side of the road/going too fast?

oh and .....

"Lucky white heather" = sucks to be you

I never "undertake" on the motorway

I normally sit at normal motorway speed while traveling on there, because if i wasn't going with the flow and everyone on the motorway slowed down i would be "oh ho" so there is no point in going really fast and switching lanes just to get that little bit in front. The speed limit is there for a reason

Techno, sounds like you just need to chill out a bit, try driving between 35-50K a year, you soon learn not to get annoyed by other peoples driving habits. As my dad told me not long after I passed my test, "Now that you have passed your test you now need to learn to drive properly." and how true that is, anyone who belives that they can drive once they have passed their test is seriously deluded.

Yeah i know, Chillllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll i know :D

Yeah my driving instructor said to me "Now the real driving begins" :)

I see your Paris & Riyadh. Raise you Marakesh and Aleppo.

The amount of morons on the road is unbelievable, tonight M62, dark, pouring rain, 30k BMW comes past me with only his side lights on,

Went on holiday to Norfolk once to see Springfield Gardens which were closed when I got there as they were building a shopping centre, then my car broke down and took three days to fix so I had to hire a car :suspect:.

Anyway I wasn't keen on the Norfolk roads as a lot of them are single lane and so flat and straight it takes a couple of moments to work out that the car ahead is stationary (hope you know what I mean - perspective and everthing).

Yeah i know what you mean, A lot of roads around here are not really single track just tight two lanes

The roads in Norfolk are a lot better than many others in the country. I have a friend in Oxfordshire and I was shocked by the state of the roads there compared to the roads here, the difference in the smaller road being especially noticeable.

Norfolk is also one of the few counties in England without any Motorway.

A driver is entitled to use the full width of their side of the road.

Some modern HID headlamps are too bright, and many people who have fitted HID lights retrospectively are driving illegally because these systems need headlamps with self levelling headlamps

What really irritates me is why people joining dual carriageways or motorways assume they have right of way and expect people travelling considerably faster than they are to move out of the way. Quite often some moron will move see a car about to join and will swerve into the next lane to avoid the joining car, without bothering to check to see if the next lane was free... I have seen loads of near misses and a couple of collisions. Its up to the person joining the dual carriageway to modulate their speed and to join in a suitable gap.

Its even worse if I'm driving for work, because drivers tend not to notice that there may be a trailer with another car on the back of it, so the combined weight is pretty high, and they don't stop as quickly as a modern car and an evasive manoeuvre is much riskier in this than a normal car.

 i don't have them but i am sure i have seen them

That is the reason why i move in to the fast lane when approaching a slip road.......... Pretty much proved my point of doing this :D

Its when people do that that they can cause accidents behind them by not looking or failing to judge the speed of someone in their door mirrors. Keep in your lane - its safer.

:S

I make sure people are not coming

Conversely not allowing for the traffic merging from the sliproad can mean that the driver joining the motorway/dual carriageway is forced to come to an almost complete stop and then have to join traffic travelling at 70 mph, from a standing start.

I'm not sure I see how this can be considered any safer than a driver on the main carriageway adjusting their speed as they approach a sliproad so as to let the merging traffic in......

It depends on the situation, if the centre lane is empty then I can't see any harm in moving out to pass the joining vehicle, if on the other hand we're talking about heavy traffic, then yes it could be dangerous, but in either case it's only dangerous if you fail to anticipate the actions of other road users and are forced to make the manoevere to avoid a collision....

and the middle lane isnt for normal driving, that is the left hand lane. you stay in the left unless your overtaking. there is two fast lanes, middle is overtake. outer is overtaking middle.

middle lane hoggers do my nut:thumbs:

and shift over after checking it is clear. if not, then drive through and let them adjust there speed to compensate
