Feel free mods to move if in wrong forum, but as it is kinda editing related I stuck it in here. For some strange reason it looks like I am not getting full administration rights within win7 when using Canon`s DPP. If I convert and save my Raw files as jpegs as I have done in the past, now and then it kicks up I do not have permission. It then leaves a VBF file extension in the folder I was saving to. If I proceed to convert and save that same file again it says the file already exists do I want to replace it, if I click yes it saves it as a jpeg no problem. My DPP version is 3.7.2.0 which is as far as I know the correct version. Any ideas would be great.
Thanks

I've seen the same thing, not with DPP though. I think it was when downloading several files from the internet consecutively and the problem seemed to occur only sometimes, but seemingly if I was a bit too quick with my key clicks. It's been a while (weeks) since I've seen the problem appear, but I have no idea what the cause is, or the solution. Sorry.

I'd also be interested to find the root cause and the correct permanent fix.

No probs Tim, I have just been running DPP as administrator which seems to have settled it down now ;) Might do a search and see if there is a version of tweakui for win 7 so I can run the shooting match as sole admin even though it is set up to be just that.

Frigging Microsoft again!!

You can run as admin all the time, all you do is click on start go to your program right click on it and select properties. In the compatability tab you will see a check box that is Privilegde Level, tick this and then click ok, you can also changes the setting for all users etc etc. The program should then run all the time as administrator.

As an aside I also get the permission box pop up now and again, have yet to find out why it does it, all I do is click ok then save it again and it overwrites the file that it has placed there, bit of a pain I know but sooner or later I will find why its doing this and hopefully stop it.

I started searching and found this discussion - http://www.neowin.net/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t729720.html. Right at the end it looks like Nod32 might be the cause of the problem. I do use Nod32 and am currently running V4.0.468.0. I don't remember when I last updated the version but it was some weeks ago, and my problem has not appeared for some weeks. Coincidence?

My problem was when saving from Firefox, which does get a few mentions throughout the thread, but maybe Nod32 was the cause all along.

EDIT : I've just updated to 4.0.474.0.

Thats interesting, now seings as im usong Nod32 on the pc and the laptop it would make sense as both have the same intermitent error, time for an update me thinks..

 And I started running Nod 32 a week ago
Tbh I have clicked once on the odd couple of progs that were giving me the message and ran as admin, since then they fire up as normal when I launch them.
Cheers anyway guy`s.

Well after a few weeks clear of the problem I saw it reappear yesterday, while downloading drivers files from Dell's website. So I'm no nearer a solution. Maybe I should have stayed with Nod 4.0.468.0. Ho hum.
