This is called?

Okay, so my course tutor has got us doing what he calls "Photo Joining", and im really enjoyingit. Okay, the subjects i have shot so far are not the best, and there are far more interesting things out there to shoot... just give me a chance! These were shot at the college and it was raining outside.

I have done some googling and not found any of this type of editing around, this makes me think im searching for the wrong thing.

1. Can anyone suggest a more appropriate name for this type of photography/editing.

2. Other than Pano software, is there any specific software out there that will produce similar results? Not planning on using it, as half the fun is trying to put the photo together, but could be useful in the future.

I know that David Hockney uses this style of photography and i love some of his work.
