Can't argue with that Ruth

Agree. I've thought the same with the Glasgay festival. If someone started a Glas-straight festival (I know it doesn't scan properly!!) they'd be called homophobic.

Not just this issue either to be fair.
I'm sure the Music of Caucasian Origin awards would go down a storm too.

Not like you and I to agree...but...

There is this thing at my work, a gay/bi/trans network called out at *****. We also have a sexist "Women in business" network and a "Muslim network". The most inclusive is actually the Muslim one, you can go along to their social events and mingle, their business network seems great.

Now. I'd love to start a "White, Middle class, male, and straight" network and see how long I last.

Irish non-church goer here! Finally!!!! phew, feels good.

I have nothing against any form of sexuality, I just don't want to be hearing about it all the time. Yeah, we get that you're proud, now get on with it, why do we have to have your sexual preference pushed in our faces? I know a few gay lads, and girls, and all they ever talk about is sex ... every other word becomes an innuendo, they clearly try to test peoples patience by tying to shock them .... if I sat in a pub loudly talking about my sex life I'd be told to STFU, that nobody cares, and rightly so. Try doing that with a gay person ... you'll be the worst b*****d in existance.

Tired of your gay chit!! keep it at home. Wish I could shout that at them when they start

:agree: I tend to feel that when you get any group of people who never seem to be out of the headlines they have become a pest. I had never heard of pink list or rainbow list until this thread was started. Are they just other names for what we are always hearing about ?

I actually belong to a women only business network, but I am constantly amazed by the number of women [fortunately none in my own group or even across the 70 women in my region] that seem to think men shouldn't be allowed the same. Equality means exactly that, everyone should be equal and have equal rights - ergo, I don't see why there shouldn't be men only networks either. I don't play golf for example, but do think all clubs should admit men and women as members, but see no issue with having a men only day and women only day each week.
There are still a significant number of hotels and b&b's in places like Brighton that actively advertise gay/lesbian only, but can you imagine if someone specified heterosexual only?
This is what bugs me most of all about various 'minority' groups wanting everything equal... it has to be equal across the board or you are simply being as bigoted and intolerant as the people you are fighting against.

Yv, regarding the B&B issue, several establishments have tried turning away gay couples, and have been dragged through the courts, vilified by the media and "gay rights groups" and made to pay punitive compensation.

Equal isn't remotely equal, sadly.

Yes I know, and that is exactly what really gets on my nerves about those that scream loudest that they want equality - it is rarely actually equality.

ETA: I also know there are are a lot of 'silent majority' within every group of society that perceives itself to be discriminated against, that consider the noisy, brash element of their group to be wrong too, so certainly don't tar everyone within these various cultural, religious and gender groups as having the same opinions and feelings about 'equality' as some of the noisier factions.

Sadly as with most of these things it's the radicals that cause the most problems.
I've had a few Gay friends in my life, many before it was wise to own up and without exception all would prefer to
just be allowed to get on with their lives in same way the rest of us do, they never wanted all this Gay Rights stuff.
They still prefer to continue their lives as they were and be left in peace.

Well...of course people would laugh if heterosexuals had such a list. Heterosexuals are not a minority group for one thing. And simply don't have to deal with the issues members of the LGBT(I) do.

Had that not been the case lists like this would not be needed. The fact that they happen though, says more about society as a whole than it does about any particular group/list.

Totally agree Ingrid, would like to clarify that I too have zero problem, or even interest in someone's sexual orientation.
I have friends, and colleagues who are gay, and some of whom are the finest people, wittiest company, and most dedicated parents you could wish to know.
And they simply get on and live their lives along with everyone else :-)

No Matty they wouldn't laugh. They would be singled out as racist / homophobic / elitist bigots.
The reverse should apply.

That's not bad going,
in less than 20 pages,
Homosexuality / gay / lesbian / race / religion and women's rights,
have all been discussed.
I'm just waiting for Godwins law to kick in,
then I can shout house

:D

It's discrimination whichever way it's practiced and I oppose it all, whether it's a gay couple being turned away from one establishment or a straight couple being turned away from another.

I can't see how advertising or practising discrimination based on sexual orientation is in any way legal, irrespective of which orientation it is that is being discriminated against.

A local castle refused to have any civil partnership ceremonies to get round the equality issue. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/2050937/Earl-of-Devon-bans-gay-marriages-at-his-castle.html
Seems the owner realised he was cutting of his nose to spite his face and has decided to abandon what principles he may have had. http://www.powderham.co.uk/content/news/new-2014-wedding-packages1.ashx
Be interesting to see if a gay CP would find the weekend they wanted was double booked...
