This is all some folk have to worry about?

Nope!

Every day, PRs get better at planting "news" stories with the BBC.

In other news, why not go to Lanhydrock for a Mother's Day treat? I see they have a tea shop.

Got to be (starting from plate level!) scone, cream, jam. Although I prefer butter to clotted cream, despite being Devonshire born and bred.

In the real world, however you want to eat it (and the order the layers are in actually does make a difference to the taste and mouth feel of it - try for yourselves!)

cream has to go on first from a mechanical point of view - much easier to put the jam on top of the crema than the crema on top of the jam!

The Cornish always do things the hard way! The do make very good pasties though - as long as you go past Launceston.

I don't bother with the jam, good dollop of clotted cream is all that's needed on a decent scone

Which brings us to another dilemma, is it pronounced scone (like phone) or scon, as a Londoner its the former for me

It really should rhyme with phone, but I say scon.

If you're putting espresso anywhere near your scone you're doing something seriously wrong!

Cut the scone [phone] in half, clotted cream on one half jam on the other, put them together ..... problem solved (y)

They’re both wrong. It’s butter on first then clotted cream - definitely no jam ;) The only controversy is whether it should be salted or unsalted butter, I favour unsalted.

Strawberry jam with lumps of fruit left in and on slightly salted butter (as per post #9.) Phone not con!

From when I lived in Devon, many years ago, I was taught to put jam on first and then cream as that way you can get more cream on the scone.

Infidel..... get back to your mud hut! Do you drink your tea out of a tim mug too?

My theory exactly. The 'Cornish' way though I'm from east of the Tamar. As I'm dragged away to be burned at the stake can I use 'Devon clotted cream is far superior to Cornish' in my defence?
Scone is scon - doesn't rhyme with phone (or spoon............)
For the sake of my figure I've only had about two 'proper' cream teas in my life. Don't expect any change from a pot of clotted cream when I've been at it :) (We need a smiley with the cat face-lick)

I'm not a big cream fan, so use the cream like butter, a thin spread, then loads of jam :D

I do! :P

I don't drink tea full stop.
It tastes vile, I rather drink my own p*** than that stuff!

Have you seen the colour it turns cups?
All that tannin, the Egyptians would have used that instead of formalin had they known :p

I consider our rivalry with those over the wrong side of the Tamar as good fun,
Bit more fuel to the fire...... carrot in pasties!

Methinks tea is too strong a brew for slivering types...... decaff with a twist and ultra skinny milk and a tiny crust biccie.... bletch

Still the Lambrini with a slice of lime will set you up for the evening.

There is nothing that does not taste better with best butter! :)

Then do yourself a favour and try Jam & Cream without Butter.

Using Butter is like having Curry Sauce with Fish & Chips, F&C needs Salt and Vinegar, Salt 1st of course.

Fried fish between slices of buttered bread and of course a chip butty, see butter again ;). Oh and BTW it has to be cider vinegar for me, none of that “non brewed condiment” that so many call malt vinegar :)

All that china tea cup service and cucumber sandwiches with the crusts cut off?
No wonder the country is going to "pot" :p

Chips on their own with curry sauce, yum.

you don't need to smoke it
Canna butter cream tea anyone?

Teetotal for years now

Dropped a third of my body weight and (finally) got my swimming distance up.

Mindfulness for mood and contemplation and no over-processed food

All with strong tea as my guilty secret!
