is it not possible to report the item to ebay? I had a quick look at the page but couldn't find a report action?
Surely that would be a better course of action to take rather than call the possible customers names?

At least they are trying - until recently they were offering items 'but it now'!
Tom, you can report it through the customer support - I reported a couple of 500mm f4's last week which were clearly duplicates. Never got a reply but they disappeared within an hour.

Yeah I've reported a 500/4 today which funnily enough was also listed as £1200 but to contact the sellers email first. 
If you are looking for a 500/4 though, you obviously know the rough prices they are going for second hand and would have to be pretty dumb to fall for this.
