This doesn’t bode well.

Yes
I’m struggling to believe this but it seems legit.

Fujifilm increase if 60%

The price of about everything is going out of sight. This really shouldn't be much of a surprise.

Possibly, but it's more likely been said just to make people panic buy the stuff.

I have enough colour film to last this year; any more than that will probably outlast me so I won't be panicking.

Have you been across the rise in film costs over the past few years? This far outstrips even the recent rise in utility bills.

Sure, I buy 80 - 100 rolls of Velvia-50 every 6 months or so. Quality film isn't cheap to make - I just hope Fujifilm maintains their quality.

….and you’ll continue to purchase Fuji film even with 60% additional outlay for the same product , without batting an eyelid?

Production costs I accept .
Occasional moderate increases I accept.
Sheer greed I do not!

Oh, I'll bat an eye, all right! Just not surprised at the increase, thought it was inevitable.

You thought that a 60% increase was inevitable ????

Yeah , ok

I wonder if they are trying to justify stopping the production of film?

Prices up by 60%. Sales down. Close factory. (But not before making millions of rolls they can sell after they stop production at even more inflated prices)

Personally, the only Fuji film I liked was Acros but I can get similar results with Delta 100. Provia was/is the only colour stock I get on with and I can live without shooting it. I'd hate to be someone who loves the colours of Fuji right now.

It seems to be emulating the situation with vinyl records, where HMV have Adele's album 30 at £12.99 on CD, but a whopping £29.99 on vinyl. It's said that all the remaining vinyl pressing plants worldwide were given over to producing this record, so some beancounter must have decided what the market would stand. :$

As I don't really use colour film, I have alternatives to Fuji. Like Ian I used Acros in 5x4 Readyloads which I liked for the ease of carrying while deploring the hole, but there are several alternatives in sheet form.

(Fuji in their wisdom placed a hole in one corner in the Acros Readyload sheets which I always had to clone out on prints. Presumably to make for easier hanging up to dry.)

Fixed for you :) (That's how I read it :))

Putting the hole there probably cost a bit of money in production as well, so a classic case of "less is more"? :exit:

They probably put the hole there to give folk summat to gripe over ( with valid reason by the sounds of it), then to rectify the problem and slap a price increase on the new upgraded version of the same product :ROFLMAO:

Might be worth checking your eBay messages to see if you've got the one about 10% off your next 3 purchases. These are purchases from any seller, rather than the usual list, with a maximum saving of £75. Film prices are pretty variable on eBay, but a possibility of stock at prices we may not see again?

Production costs + Transport costs, both increased significantly. So glad I'm digital these days!

Must admit I do have an irrational desire to do a little bit of panic buying. Just a little bit... :D

I used to love shooting film but I don’t anymore because it costs too much. You’re now paying £10 for Color plus. I’m sure that’s what portra used to cost! Such a shame.

Problem solved, write to these fine people, I did!

Oh hang on, the snaps in the wallet are c. 2005. I reckon that once in a blue moon they'll still get their Freepost mailer sent to them for D&P.

Everybody back to Boots to get your snaps developed.

Well, although Truprint/York are now defunct, they have evolved into Harrier digital printers. Not sure if they still do the D part of D&P these days...

Well I didn't know that, maybe they'll re-discover the D part again before too long

Neither did I until I looked at the postcode on Google Earth streetview and googled the name above the door of what used to be Truprint/York!

Meh. If Ilford started raising their prices on the other hand... now that might really make me think about the cost/benefit of shooting film

Given the increase in energy costs and commodity prices here in the UK I thinks it's inevitable that Ilford will have to increase their prices, likewise producers throughout the world I suspect. I only shoot film (B&W) so I will have to adapt to continue to enjoy my passion.

And when people stop buying it because of the price, they will stop production because no one is buying it.

It won't be a lack of popularity that kills film it'll be the film producers that kill it with price increases.

I doubt the manufacturers will want to make film if they are making major losses, hence price increases. I doubt any of them are making large if any profits. Declining volumes will only increase costs.

Had a look on camera price buster as that shows best film prices.:oops: :$ Tri X is now double what I paid the last time I got some. XP2 which I think I paid about £5 a roll for is now double as well.

Not sure how accurate it is as it was suggesting superia was £16 a roll but Wex says £9.50. But it's out of stock.

It definitely needs some disruptive producers at the cheap end that's more like £3 a roll.

Got a couple rolls of Agfa and rollei black and white as £5 odd a roll odd now seems really cheap. Analogue wonderland seems to be keenly priced.

In the last 2 weeks I searched high and low for consumer 35mm C41 (Gold, Colorplus, C200). Their was some availability from established photography suppliers n 24 exp but very little in 36 exp. Of course Colorplus was available on a large auction site at £25-30 for 2!

A number of places showing out of stock were displaying "old' prices with this being at a price of "I wish"
https://www.morco.uk.com/colour-film/fujicolor-c200-35mm.html

I was prepared to trade up to Superia etc but again very little available in 36 exp. At the prices of some consumer film I seriously considered going upto £13-£18 a roll for Porta or E6 - this is readily available.

In the end I got a 5 pack of Kodak pro image 100 for £41 Inc P&P. At £8.20 a roll that seemed a bargain. I can't see me buying anymore 35mm C41 this year. Pro image from here, useful place

Fortunately b&w in all formats seems plentiful. For cheap b&w my go to is Kentmere as low as £4.20 for 36 exp. Think I'll be ordering a range of b&w in different formats & different manufacturers over Easter to try and lock in a couple of years supply.

All in all the C41 hunt was somewhat dispiriting.

EDIT - 18 rolls of b&w now ordered from The Photographer's Gallery.
