Disabled veterans jeered at swimming pool

Injured soldiers who lost their limbs fighting for their country have been driven from a swimming pool training session by jeering members of the public.
The men, injured during tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, were taking part in a rehabilitation session at a leisure centre, when two women demanded they be removed from the pool. They claimed that the soldiers "hadn't paid" and might scare the children.

The incident has sparked widespread condemnation. Adml Lord Boyce, a former head of the Armed Forces, said last night the women should be "named and shamed".

"These people are beneath contempt and everything should be done to get their names and publish them in the press," he said. "It is contemptible that people who have given up their limbs for their country should be so abused when they are trying to get fit again."

This is one very sick country. Totally lost it's way.

at the end of the day, its only a very small minority of idiots.
i dont think its fair to tar the whole country with that brush

I think losing our way is allowing the servicemen to be driven from the pool while the two women remained.

Personally I would have refunded their money and asked them to leave.

personally i would take it all with a pinch of salt. i cant see how that story can be based on anything other than hearsay

It was widely reported at the time, but I agree that news reports usually need to be taken with a bucket load of salt, this was in the Mail and the Telegraph.

That's an utter disgrace. Unfortunately every country has a minority within it's civilian population that just don't get it.

@acrlight,
that is ****ing shocking makes me embarrassed to be english :(

The 15 disabled soldiers were actually removed from the pool by their instructors because of the level of abuse. Some of them were interviewed on radio.
