weekly Thirsty's TP 52 challenge for 2017 - Weeks 43 & 44 Added

Love the idea for the theme Nigel

Thanks Tilly.

Wall; Like the idea of waiting for everyone boarded with an empty platform and the blurry moving train.

Symmetrical; perfect symmetry, lack of people and black & white conversion work really well. Was it taken early morning or very late at night?

Thanks Stan, These shots were taken about 3:30pm but on a Sunday and got lucky, did have to wait about 10 minutes thou :-).

Glass wall, well spotted, a slight crop from the LHS for me.

Cheers.
Symmetry, nice B&W, I'd like a little more contrast and a tad off the LHS.

Cheers.

Thanks Andy, might a play with the contrast and see what it looks like.

Nice motion blur in wall
Symmetry works well in b/w, but I do wonder if it needs tad more contrast as Andy said ?

Ta.

Couple of good photos, well handled light given the situations. I tend to agree that symmetry looks like there is more to be had

Thanks Chris.

Excellent original idea for Wall Nigel. It works very well. Same with symmetry ... we'll spotted, you managed to catch it with no one on them, that was lucky. Great angle, I like that one a lot

Thanks Susie, I was pleased how they both came out.

Glass Wall interestingly different idea. Yes a LHS crop and you wouldn't know where wall starts & finishes.

Symmetrical ... very nicely done and top idea for the theme.

Thanks David.

Hi Nigel,

Wall - Nice and effective. I like how you've captured the tube train moving behind the glass.
Taken at around 3.30pm, impressive that you've managed to get the effect you want + no people wandering into your shot.

Symmetrical - Yup, that works. Plenty of symmetry and the escalators lead your eye to the bright point in the shot.
Which station is this? The roof looks a bit like Southwark, but the escalators are wrong.

Thanks Tim, station was Southwark on a Sunday so was lucky but it was a nice sunny day so people were else where :-).

Hi Nigel,

Worn - I'm assuming it's dark to emphasise the ring. But it feels a little too dark to me perhaps, especially when followed by...
Colourful - Which is very nicely exposed. I like the added touch of the water on the leaf, and those are some great orange hues you've found/captured there.

Colourful
The water is a nice addition to your colourful shot. Very nice oranges and yellows.

thanks Tim, wasn't sure about worn but see what you mean I did play around with it for some time but not enough :-).

Was pleased with colourful :-).

thanks Dominic.

Height #1 for me. Great POV and the orange works well against the blue sky. Looks a little washed out on my screen but overall a good submission.

Cheers.

Loving the leaf colour and water droplets, but I'm struggling to find what's in focus. DOF's a bit too shallow.

Height #1 ... looking up, all orange & blue.

Height - #1 has great colour contrast and simplicity, says height to me.

Thanks Andy, think your right it is a little washed out.

It's the one in the Tango outfit for me, the orange stands out really well against the blue sky, The lack of anything else other than sky and clouds add to the 'height' for me too :)
Worn - A great idea for the theme, the ring is picked out really well and the B&W suits it also...

Colourful - Now they are wonderful autumn colours, and the dew drops are very fitting for the season, a splendid background too, nice one (y)

Thanks for your comments DK.

#1 for me Nigel. I think the simplicity makes it work.
#2 feels a little dark to me.

Thanks Tim, It was even darker as I was shooting into the sun but as you say doesn't really work. :-).

Height - #1 has great colour contrast and simplicity, says height to me.

Thanks David.

Remotes quite nice, but the gate at the back is OOF, I would have liked that to be in in focus...
Build is a bit of a shoehorn, but a good shot none the less.....

Remote - the focus on the middle distance does not work for me, the gate is what is remote. great colours and composition though.

Hi Nigel,

Remote - Quite a fun shot. It has echos of Tilt Shift processing in that it looks a bit like a model. Like it.
The link from the main page doesn't work though...
Build - This link works ;)
I like that. Very lo-key yet with plenty of detail. Shame the nuts are so shiny. A bit of weathering would blend them in some.

Build
It's a bit of a strange one for me. I like the shot, but find it a bit of a loose connection to build. But then again I'm sure some of mine are. :)

I know but preferred the intrigue that the out of focus gate gives :-)

The column looks almost like a Greek ruin, nice lighting

Thanks, There are about of a dozen of them and they do look like Greek ruins, all from the old pier.

Thanks and a fair point.

Build  has a rather dramatic feel to it. I'd like to see more of it.

Cheers.

Thanks, I took a few of these but this was the best of the bunch, re vist required, :-).

Thanks Tim, The nuts weren't shiny just the lighting so maybe should of dodge and burned a little in that area.

Build

Thanks Domonic, I know it's a thin connection but compared to some I've seen this year I thought it was spot on :-).

Sorry to say no for remote as not enough is in focus. Build I like as it`s from my home town :) Juicy is a nice bright shot and on theme.

Thanks Dave, I thought the remote shoot it might of been a bit of a marmite one :-).

Lovely vibrant contrast of the berries against the holly and nice use of shallow DoF. Festive indeed.

ETA:
You're not linking back from the main thread as far as I can see.

Thanks Tim, yup sorry forgot to add the links on those ones, normal service should of been resumed today :-).

Good set to finish the year on, particularly like your take on broad(cast)

Great idea Nigel for Broad. Whilst there are interesting reflections in #2, I think I would plump for #1 for it's simplicity.
Rustic - Fits the theme, so not a shoehorn from my perspective. It is also intriguing, as the gate appears to lead to a wall. B&W suits it and the use of a shallow DoF works.
Festive - I like the colours and guessed it might be Kew. There is something about the blue that puts me off though. It feels soft in the blue section whereas the silhouette and the glasshouse itself seem sharp.
Weather - A fog plan and a snow plan all in one (y) Have you considered trying crushing the blacks a little in it? (Although that might lose too much of the mist).

Hi Nigel ... liking the framing and B&W textures of the Rustic gate. (y)

Some tenuous links there as you say Nigel but still some cool pics AND a complete 52 I like your 1st Broadcast shot of all, a nice clean image and straight on works well for me... well done on completeing your challenge, I know it has been tough this year

My catch-up comments for the last 3 weeks of 2017 (hoping to be quicker in 2018)

Wk 50 - Rustic - Rustic enough for me - lichen on the gate and wall gives nice detail and monochrome makes eye concentrate on textures of the wood.

Wk 51 - Festive - Lovely colours and I bet a hard one to get exposures correct.

Wk 52 - Weather - Snow is difficult but you really got the depth of the scene with details gradually fading into distance. :)
