weekly Thirsty's TP 52 challenge for 2016 - Week 52 Celebration

Hi Nigel. Welcome to TP52 - hope you enjoy; It's fun and really helpful people. Quaint "old" part of town - love Amersham. Good choice and excellent start. Good luck with the challenges. :)

As the other Chris mentioned, maybe lift the shadows a touch?

Having said that, off to a nice start their Nigel

Nice and contrasty - I love the cobbles.

I read that as "Old Amsterdam" at first and was looking for the *ahem* coffee shops. (Too much beer last night?).

I like the desaturated look, and I'm going to disagree with Chris, I don't think the shadows need lifting.
To my eyes it could do with 1/2 a degree or so rotation to right as I think all of the verticals are off to the left (You'll not get the whole tihng striaght, but the closest line of brick ought to be vertical in my (often wrong) opinion.

Nice shot though :)

Nice shot, Nigel. In my fairly amateurish opinion I'll agree with Andy about the closer crop for me. The socket set is nicely contrasted but the bottom screwdriver handle is slightly distracting (due to a reflection?).

Cheers

Nice bright shiny set of tools there - sparkling chromework. Just a shot of that socket set may be worth space on it's own - would make an excellent abstract.

Hello Higel, like your image and choice of subject, Good luck completing your 52

Now I do like both these latest images Nigel - clean and uncluttered. I prefer the first because it has texture in the form of the workbench as a contrast but both are good.

Metal: all versions are nicely converted into b&w. The crop of just sockets is best for me - think it's because the contrasting bench adds texture and interest. Feel a macro lens could be useful for this subject

Welcome Nigel

Old ... yes the B&W makes it look old, but most of all the cobbles.

Metal ... hmm not sure, definitely a lot of metal, but light reflections and the shallowish DoF doesn't make it easy on the eye. The crop is an improvement.

Hi Nigel,

Old - Nice shot, like the perspective that you've got.

Metal - While I liked the initial shot I prefer the shot with just the sockets, it has a more obvious point of interest which appeals to me. I like that the sockets are angled but wonder if it would have worked with them slightly less angled and going from one edge of the shot to the other?

Hi Nigel

Two good shots for Old and Metal. (Especially the cobbles in Amersham).

Captive...poor bunny. Bang on theme but he/she looks sad :(

Bang on theme with the captive bunny Nigel
