Roads are dreadfully potholed. A further hazard is that all the debris from the holes is all over the place creating windscreen and bodywork damage hazards.

You'd think with all the technology available these days the powers that be could come up with an improved road surface that doesn't break up at the first signs of a little frost. We have these games coming up next year and there's litter everywhere and holes in the road that could double as Olympic swimming pools.:shake:

.............. We have these games coming up next year and there's litter everywhere ..............

this a sad sad fact [ no doubt elsewhere too]

have you noticed the motorway off-ramps are a tip - as soon as the car stops - all the f---ing rubbish goes out the window
beer bottles, BigMac meals, plastic bottles, Irn Bru - the lot ...makes me so mad..

I was in Tokyo and saw a man actually cross the road to a litter bin, to deposit the tinfoil off the top of his cig packet ...amazing ..

why are we Brits so bad with litter..?

why are we Brits so bad with litter..?

Because a lot of parents don't instil a sense of pride or decency in their kids any more so they think it's OK to drop litter, not wash their hands after using the toilet, swear at the top of their voices in the street etc etc

When I go to the pub NONE of the men I've seen leaving the toilet wash their hands, disgusting, it must be a generational thing because the women seem to accept it, when I was single 20 years ago I'm sure a potential girlfriend would have turned and walked if she'd seen me leave a toilet without washing my hands.

And when they come to fix it, it'll be a couple of shovel loads of cold pour tar battered down with the back of the shovel, good for a couple of days maybe. Useless tools.

out side the KC Stadium ( Hull City Home Ground and poss old ground now lol) they have just spent either 2 or 4 million on sorting out the entrance to it basically made a new path upto KC and put this lovely art in which is just some old metal blocks that have gone rusty

the funniest thing is the road 1 foot away from the path has big pot hole's in and was there well before they even started and guess what there still there , was there last winter too and yet nothing has been done and busses are making it worse by the day

.....and while sitting outside having a cuppa in Vegas I watched a cop picking up a newspaper that had blown off a table due to the wind and blowing down the sidewalk. When was the last time you saw a cop do something like that here.

Glasgow is indeed horrid John but at least you're driving a real car - my mother, who drives a Smart fortwo, went into a pothole a few weeks ago and nearly totalled the damn thing. They're supposed to be robust and "safe" but I really think you'd be just as well off riding around in a coke can.

My mother tripped on the pavement outside her house which has looked similar to that for years. (Don't ask how she missed it lol) Even though it had been complained about for some time, nothing was ever done. My mother broke her jaw both sides, the jaw bone went through her ear canal leaving her deaf in one ear temporarily. She broke her arm, knocked her teeth out and spilt her chin open needing numerous stitches.
Now the road has been fixed, but the council are DENYING responsibility!!! Don't even get me started now........lol

Yeh the roads are a bloody disgrace, the biggest problem is volume of traffic and lack of management on the roads department and of course funding ,I was in Glasgow other week ,I never seen roads in such a state ,the roads up here in the inverness area aren't as bad as I've seen ,sayin that the A9 is bad in places . I think the season for our roads here not begin so bad is ,they were never cleared of snow

Some potholes in a lane I use to get to work, was repaired a few weeks back. But for some reason they ignored a section of road, about 20 yards away, which has sunk where a trench had been previously dug and filled in, as it goes right across the road it can't be avoided. Then another 30-40 yards up the road there is a series of pot holes on a bend over a distance of about 20ft. The only way to negotiate them with out falling down them is drive right over to the left almost in the ditch at the side of the road or take a chance nothing is coming the other way and straddle the central white line.

They are the worse ones! If you don't have completely independent suspension you car literally hops right across the road!

John,

Get a claim in to the useless council. There are web sites giving advice on how to proceed.
Lack of funds is a great excuse. The more people that claim for car damage or injuries to themselves the better. They might get of their a.... and do something about it.

I said to one such person
"When I was young I was taught to wash my hands after going to the toilet"

His reply
"I was taught not to **** on them in the first place"

:D

Worth seeing a solicitor - the council may deny responsibility on the basis that your mother knew about the pavement, however they can rid themselves of no more than 50% of the responsibility (as they were made aware of the pavements condition) so the injury should still attract a payout.

That is the biggest pot hole I've ever seen. I'd have thought the local council would have seen that as a potential accident risk and done something about it already.

Ian, I've had a solicitor on it since last May...and they're still trying. Colchester council are currently refusing to budge.

For those of us on two wheels the potholes are even worse, cant count the number of people ive seen nearly come sliding off a motorbike due to poor road conditions
