im not keen on spending 120 squids on a proper one but is a copy going to break and plummet my camera to is death?

bumped the bumper

 can anyone with experience in this help me :help::D

Hello mate, from what ive seen, they look a bit plasticy, the metal bit that the tripod screws into dosent look as sturdy as the canon one. I think for an f4 lens you maybe okay, but i wouldnt want one on my 2.8 given the extra weight.
Dean:)

I had one for my 70-200L f4 IS and it was very well made and every bit as good as the Canon version. I also have one for my Canon EF100 Macro and although it is well made it is a fraction too large so I find the lens moves about a bit. I will buy some thin sticky backed velvet like material and use it to take up the slight slackness, it should be fine then.

The 70-200 one was I had was brilliant and could recommend it.

My 70-200L f2.8 IS came with a mount, does the non IS version not have one?

Ive got one on my 70-200 f4L its not as good as the canon one on my 400mm,its ok but when trying to go from vertical to horizontal it wont turn as smooth as the canon one hope that helps:thumbs:

Yes it does Ed, however, if it did not I don't think I would use a 3rd party due to the weight difference.

But why would you need to? You'd have to be daft enough to lose the original

I look at life like this, if you can help someone out in their hour of need then thats rewarding enough. If and when you finnish with it then post it back, if and when that time arrives and someone else is in need of one, then do the right thing

I hope you believe in Karma.

I've got a 3rd party one on my 2.8 IS...and it is tough as old beans. I've never been worried about it holding my camera to the tripod head well enough...however, it is very difficult to rotate the lens barrel in it, no matter how much I loose then thumb screw it seems to stick and takes quite a jar to get it moving...probably just needs greasing up!

What happened to the original?
How does it sit over the little guide screws that the original tripod foot slides around?

I bought it without one...the original had been lost! (Got a free 2x extender thrown in though so I wasn't arguing ) I had it on no problem, slipped over the screws perfectly, then just rotated it to the right position and was away! I think the rubber lining might be what is causing the friction when I try to rotate, but it's only a minor niggle compared to a saving of £100 or so!

Do you get a collar with the 70-200mm f/4 L? I never had one in my box and I bought it brand new!

If not, where can I get one?

Now thats what I call pushing your luck Kryptix :lol::lol:
