Currently ive got a 400d which is fairly decent but one of the main things that is annoying me is the size ive got quite large hands and dont find the body very comfortable. Iam thinking about the 40d, would this be a good move?

The only other think is the recording ability which would be a bonus on the other high end models.

Iam going to try and hunt down a 40d at a retailer first and see how it handles.

Probably not find one new at a retailers. You'll have to look for places that have it second hand. Alternative option is a 60D, also gives you hd vid recording.

I have very recently upgraded from a 1000D to a 40D for probably the same reasons, I have only had my 40D for a week or so but I can't emphasize enough how much better for me this camera is, it really is a joy to have in your hands (especially if they're big like mine). The ergonomics are great also, you can quickly & easily change to your desired settings without tolling through menus on the lcd.

As many probably said before, you won't regret buying a 40D

Is the 60d full frame? Do you know if its the same size as the 40d?

No the 60d is crop sensor as per 30,40,50,7d

5d MK1 and II are a full frame sensor

The 60d is smaller in size than the 30,40,50D,7D and 5d's, its inbetween the 500d and 40 etc in size.

Adding a grip does help if you have larger hands

As above, my 400d felt rather uncomfortable in my hands until I added a grip and improved things no end.

As a contrast, I don't like using the grip on my 5d2, it's massive!
