Tonight I've been thinking of selling my camera gear. It's become a bit of an obsession since owning a Canon G9. Would love to clear the credit card and have some freedom back, and have a basic point and shoot again.

I need to learn to drive too, and generally have a bit more financial freedom.

Has anyone else done this?

Yep! Many on here have done that!

Then regretted it!!

Not with camera gear but with numerous other things where I've looked in the short term and sold something to clear debts and get "Financial Freedom", I wish I'ld learnt the first time but if you have any other options please don't sell the gear for short term financial gain. You could regret it down the line and then not have the funds to get back the gear you wished you'ld not sold in the first place.

You might as well tbh since the laws against photography these days are becoming a reality. I have (jokingly) toyed with the idea of sticking it all on ebay but I genuinely fear that one day it will become a reality, like, you are only allowed to own a camera if its your profession.

In all honesty though, it's your fault in the first place for using your credit card to buy things you can't afford... so it's really your choice whether or not you sell your gear. Personally I'd just work my socks off, clear those debts and then save for a rainy day.

I had to do this last year out of necessity and felt completely lost without a camera, could you just sell some of your more expensive glass and keep a basic kit its hard when the purse strings are tight but you will regret selling it all Carl
Or could you downgrade a little

Did that a few (many) years ago and had to start from scratch again - thankfully I didn't sell my Nikon F2-AS as it was too battered to make any money from and was also in the keeping of my Brother while he was at Uni studying architecture...
But I regretted it about a week later...
Had to go from a pair of F3 plus drives and a suite of lenses to an FM2 and 35mm f/2 as it was all I could by then afford...having got burger-hall for the F3 sytem (black paint scratched off everything)...

Did that 20 years ago. Sold all my Nikon 35mm kit.
Turned out to be a mamoth mistake.
Getting back into photography meant buying kit of lower quality than I had. Took ages to overcome that.
Bottom line is that I have actually spent a helluva lot more money on kit than I need have done.
Try to find another route to what you want to achieve.
