Thinking of Giveing Up

I don't think using a 'bridge' camera is 'giving up'. :shake: It is all about choosing the right equipment for your purpose.

I 'gave up' on SLRs decades ago - it was way too much kit too lug about for the pictures I wanted. I keep looking but see more interesting compact cameras than SLRs.

Lob them in a bag (or pocket) and go out and take pictures. Perfect.

I had the same idea for a number of months. When I reviewed the amount of money that I had 'invested' in camera gear it plainly was not an effective cost balance. Nikon prices went up and I sold making a small loss and purchased a Canon Bridge camera.

I now have a couple of grand in the bank and a bridge - it does most of what I did before but when pixel peeping I cry for a bit then look at the bank balance.

Whilst I would agree that your pictures will not improve with a bridge, perhaps you will re find what is now missing. My entire kit can now fit in a bulky jacket pocket, if it was to be lost/stolen/dropped in a pond, I will survive. I always have the most appropriate lens that my camera can support with me and need not look for any others.

Only you will know what the change will cost you both fiscally and with your pictures, but there is still light at the end of the tunnel whatever you decide.

clever idea daugirdas, shoot your kids so you'll have no kids to take pictures and so you dont need to get rid of the camera:clap:

 Im still laughing at that!!

Anyways, I have a bridge camera that I find very restricting when there is that feature you feel you need. You have far less control with a bridge camera and almost everything is automatic. Does that not take the fun out of taking photos? It does for me. There are some good bridge cameras out there with excellent manual features, but personally I think there is no comparisson when it comes to the picture quality of a DSLR.
