Thinking of buying these to start and branch out in portrait/fashion photog?

After seeing the examples in that threat Lookup, I feel compelled to buy that beauty piece of equip. HOWEVER Im gonna use my head and wait a bit - I really need my flash gun first meanwhile I'll stick to my kit lens. 50mm af-s 1.4 for 200 and odd quid, cant knock it to be honest!

Does it AF with D60? I see you use a d60 yourself in your sig. - Nevermind I looked further in the thread, found out it does - Im tempted to get the sigma version instead, seems most people in the thread are agreeing its bokeh is better than the nikkor.

And Im gonna check up on the tripod youve got, Ive no clue whats better than what with tripods, all have 3 legs and stop camera shake as far as I see it haha.

its a lightmeter/flashmeter you have a digital cam, take a shot seem what it looks like and adjust, that saved you some money :D

mf is perfectly usable for a 50mm prime, but it does kinda do away with the point of having a fast lens because you need to focus first tbh i would wait and love the flashes, or may well find yourself wanting more reach (i do with my 18-55 all the time when i do portraits) i want a longer zoom lie the 24-105 but can't afford it so i sue what i have and learn as i go
 
Flash seems to be a good idea, although I started with 85mm f1.2 (I am a canon user), which helped me a lot in portraiture. now I see how important the flash is, especially if you plan to shoot full body portraits, so it is going to be my next purchase. the usage of flashguns off camera may seem a bit complicated and technical if you have just started, but worth it.
 
You could always go 2nd hand to save some pennies.

You could pick up a 50mm f1.8 for circa £50, 85mm f1.8 around £180 and SB600 around £105.
