Yes
Right, as stated, thinking ahead here.
My BluDomain whatsit runs out in Feb, and I'd like to leave them and go to a HTML/XML Flash site, run a photo gallery[prob Photo Cart as I like the option to NOT use Paypal!!] and a host that'll let me do these things without running up big bills

I'm not the highest earner in both my photography and other job, so don't wanna break the bank too much [photocart has already made me go  but then calmed down cos it's one time fee]
So, can anyone name me somewhere to buy a good layout theme that I can customise and add a simpleviewer or similar gallery to it, and link photocart as well?

Not too technically minded so simple please.
My other website is hosted by fasthostingdirect, it's great, but not sure it's gonna offer me the ability to do as I wish? Plus isn't too user friendly for me, find it very hard/impossible to do anything - Cos I'd really like a unique layout.

EDIT: Just wanna confirm, Photocart will let your customers simply pay by card as they do when generally ordering online? DO NOT want to use Paypal!
TIA

If you don't want people to pay using Paypal or a similar service you would need a merchant account which is expensive. The benefit of Paypal is you don't have to pay a monthly fee but I agree I with you, I would rather not use them.

Have you ever used Gallery? The software is excellent, is free, loads of templates worth a look.

Photocart will allow you to setup and choose from a number of payment options - including but not limited to paypal, you don't need a merchant account, but a couple of the options are US only.

If I remember (not a complete list) the other options you can choose from are

authorise.net
securepay
direct payment
email payment
paypal pro
eprocessingnetwork

you can also add a payment method that will allow you to use your own merchant account

for a simple theme you could do alot worxse than photocrati themes for wordpress

Sorry guys, really not up the technology side of things like this so you'll need to explain more how I'll get these services set up?

Really set on NOT using Paypal though, and that will be a huge factor in me going with whatever company.

boyfalldown, do photocart, for UK people, let you use just a simple 'client types in their card details' system??

And anyone able to name some good web hosts and/or template providers?

you can use a simple client types in their details system, but you can't authorise payments online immediatly without using one of the other online services - you need to process it through a terminal at your end, and so need a merchant account - so although you have choices other then paypal most work in pretty much the same way

What do you mean by merchant account, photocart only offer the one? [$300 and something?]

and yeah, I was asking if you knew which of those clients allows that type of payment and authorisation?

I have nothing wrong with similar to paypal companies, just paypal themselves!

What your describing isn't simple. When a client types in their card details then there has to be some form of back end to receive the details, process the payment from them and then send you the money, minus their transaction fee and all done in a very secure way .... thats the bit that paypal makes hassle free in photocart.

In your own words "your not technically minded" so I think going the merchant account route, setting up SSL's etc probably isn't for you.

One of the nice things with Photocart is that you can include custom payment methods like cash on delivery or mail in cheque and its surprising how popular these are, particularly when selling to older generations or people based locally to you.

PayPal works and is not too expensive, however, integrating paypal's instant payment notification is not for the faint-hearted, from what I read above I too suggest you ought to reconsider PayPal using their shopping cart, it's about the easiest thing you're going to find

I have my own issues with Paypal, am not going to get into them on here. Too long winded. But I am not willing to give them anymore business.

Problem with cheques is I don't have the time to wait for them to clear, I want the client's payments to be instant.
I try to do home ordering sessions where payment will be given then, HOWEVER for where I can't do this, I need a reliable online ordering system.

I have come accross a website that did send me an invoice with google but not sure how it works as I ended up paying with Paypal. I hope you find a secure solution.

In the end I would want to offer what the customer wants.... I would hate to turn down a customer/order just because I didn't offer paypal.

What's your issues with FastHostingDirect? I find it brilliant (and cheap) :D

Edit: Just checked my control panel and they offer several ecommerce products.

Zencart shopping cart, osCommerce shopping cart, cubecart and agora shopping cart. Perhaps someone could comment on those (I don't know them).

I don't have an issue with fasthostingdirect....

However I seem to have found a sort of roundabout way for this, thanks!
