Thinking About Upgrading To CS4

Wait for CS5 - that will be a more worthwhile upgrade.

As above, don't bother... the differences from a photography point of view are minuscule and not worth the cost, as LemmingLover says wait for CS5 which will be a whole different kettle of fish

I currently have Photoshop CS3, I have been thinking about upgrading to CS4. What are your opinions, and is it really worth the extra money?

Yes, because the latest version of Adobe Camera Raw is the mutts! Graduated ND filters, localised editing, vignetting aprés cropping... And I find it runs much quicker than Lightroom which I struggle with a bit on my aging Mac.

Plus I couldn't use RAW with my GF1 on CS3 and ACR. :(

Is there anything in CS4 you really need and is it worth £160? That's the question you have to ask yourself.

Not sure then have a look at this, it's a bit dated now but may be useful. It does also cover Photoshop CS4 extended, so some of the features may not be in the "Standard" version.

If you are still not sure then try the 30 day trial download.

Personally unless there is something that's a real time saver I find that I usually skip a version. I did find CS4 a worthwhile upgrade from CS3 but then there were a couple of new features that I found useful.

I agree

I found it easier to use and navigate around going from CS3 to 4
