Wife and I are thinking about doing prague some point this year with our 2 children. (daughter 10 and son 3) Will be taking the camera and wondering what would be a good choice.

Kit I have currently

Canon 7dmk2
18-135
50-500 sigma.
40mm 2.8
50-200
if i decide to keep the last 2 or sell them.

My daughter also has a panasonic g7 with 14-42 and 30mm sigma lens. And a manfrotto b3.

Hi
Can I ask about the 18-135 lens you have? I am considering in getting this myself and just looking in to the reviews and opinions. Would you recommend this lens?

Not used it a great deal as only had it for christmas, it has great af,, nice to use and iq looks good, so far I would recommend it.

Buildings, landscapes, anything really that presents its self.

I only have the kit lens that came with my DSLR, so have been looking to get a new lens. Been asked to photograph a friends wedding so give me the perfect excuse to get something new. Was thinking of this lens but not sure because I know this would be great for everyday use but may not be wide enough for some weeding shots

On that basis I would say your 18-135 and maybe a wider angle lens than what you currently have

Personally I think Prague suits medium to long telephoto lenses around the 70-200mm mark. There are so many towers and spires etc which have great detail on them, and you can compress the images far better with a tele lens to give you really great compositions.

Thanks Carl, a 70-200 is on the consideration list for a new lens at the photography show.
I wouldn't need anything longer would I looking at the area.

Been a while since I was there but I remember some narrow wee streets and tight shooting angles. I'd definitely go for a wide lens as well or instead of 70-200!
I'd love to take the 24-70 everywhere with me but holiday wanders are much easier with a 50 MM. And live with the compromise
Hope I make it back there one day though, I'm sure you'll love it

Ah Prague, one of my favourite cities.
I was there last year with the D800 and took my 35mm but it was my honeymoon so photography wasn't top of the list! - I'm going back in February and will be taking something wider this time (21mm f2.8) and will look to take either an 85mm or a zoom depending on what lens deals I see before then!

Will look out for the pics, :):snaphappy:

Prague is a fantastic city but the crowds make photography quite a challenge, I was up very early to photograph places there.
I took my 16- 35 24 - 70 and 70 - 200. I used the 70 - 200 the most

I was up about 5.30 , but I was on my own so did not have company to consider.
Charles bridge early with hawkers setting up their pitches was very interesting...

I've been there several times and would also agree go wide. I used a kit lens most of the time on 18mm as my 35mm was just to zoomed for the small streets. There is also some fantastic night time photos to be had in the castle district so bring a tripod. On a side note theirs some great food to. ;)

I think the best will be to take some wide. I was in Prague many times and 70-200 is very uncomfortable to carry in crowd. What I recommend: bring something like 16-35 and 50 mm fixed lens.

I would like you also recommend an accommodation it is "u jezulatka" very beautiful boutique hotel 10 meters to Charles Bridge near Hradcany. Places to visit: must have old town, bridges, Hradcany and zlata strana

From the lenses you have and given that you have a crop body, I'd suggest taking the 18-135mm and maybe the pancake for night shots.
Enjoy your trip, Prague is a lovely place. We joined a walking tour starting in the city centre by the clock that included a nice lunch and ended up over the river to the Castle. Must go again one day.

Thanks for the recommendation, I shall keep it in mind.
