My existing computer is 10 and a half years old and started having a few issues so time for an upgrade and was a self build. won't take windows 11

Apart from canniblising the 750w PU and graphics card plus a few other bits an d pieces
This is first look at components for a self build.

1= [be quiet! Pure Base 600, Black, Mid Tower Computer Chassis, 140/120mm Fans, USB 3.0, ATX/Micro-ATX/Mini-ITX]

2_Noctua NH-U12S SE-AM4 Ultra-Quiet Slim CPU Cooler, 1x 120mm NF-F12 PWM Fan, Copper Base/Heatsink, Aluminium Fins, AM4

3= 32GB (2x16GB) Corsair DDR4 Vengeance LPX Black, PC4-28800 (3600), Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 18-22-22-42, 1.35V

4=[Windows 11 Home Edition, 64-bit, English International, USB

5=ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING WI-FI II, AMD B550, AM4, DDR4, PCIe 4.0, SATA3, Dual M.2, 2.5GbE, 2x2 Wi-Fi 6E/BT5.2, ATX

6 =AMD Ryzen™ 7 5800X, AM4, Zen 3, 8 Core, 16 Thread, 3.8GHz, 4.7GHz Turbo, 36MB Cache, PCIe 4.0, 105W, CPU

7=1TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus, M.2 (2280) PCIe 3.0 (x4), NVMe SSD, MLC V-NAND, 3500MB/s Read, 3300MB/s Write, 600k/550k IOPS]

of course not a final decision but within budget

Why go for another selfbuild?
I don't trust the best components go into a " off the shelf" computer as it is a good way of supplies cutting costs and also why pay someone to build anyway?
A regards warranty yes an "off the Shelf" computer may have a good one but if something goes wrong you have no computer until fixed. Aso if you alter any part of it bang goes the warranty

the above components come in at under £1000 without searching for same from other suppliers, next task.

1. OK. Dark base would be my recommendation
2. fine
3. Check carefully if that particular RAM is on the MB supported list. Or you may find yourself running it instead at say 3200MHz. It's a funny MB. But to be fair why not get yourself 64GB. 32 is bare minimum.
4. It's a horrible thing but it's not like you have much other choice
5. if you really have to in late 2022. Its a deaden. Why not go with Intel 13th gen now?
6. as above. Or at least 5900x
7. No no no. 980 Pro is just pennies more expensive and will give you plenty more speed. You can leave 970 evo as a second drive. Samsung has great migration software, WD has none. So chose wisely.
8. I suspect you will want a video card to match, unless you already have one. You need one with Ryzen 5.

Good luck!

I've just updated my motherboard/cpu/SSD setup. Similar to you, I kept the PSU (750w), GPU (GTX 2070) and case (Corsair "Quiet" 330R).

Went from an i7-6700 to an i7-13700 (with new cooler) and 32Gb DDR5 RAM as well as a couple of 2TB WD Blue M2s (Scan were having a deal on them). With the Z790-P motherboard it all came in just over a grand. The only future things I'll need will be another couple of 16Gb sticks in the new year and a GPU maybe next summer. With everything on M2s now there are barely any cables inside so it looks neat too.

Had a hairy moment when it wouldn't boot due to me not being forceful enough inserting the ram, but after that, it was nice to have a quick PC again and be able to update to Win11.

Thanks for your suggestions I will pass them on to my son who will actually be doing the build

You shouldn't need to buy Windows 11.
Just use your current code and upgrade.
The money you save get a gen4 M.2 drive.

I think that's a pretty sensible spec. apart from:
2 - That Noctua cooler is only rated at 129W; I'd recommend one with a bit more head room for a 105W CPU.
3 - I doubt the extra money for 3600 RAM is worthwhile over 3200.

the dark base puts over my budget of £1000 as does theRyzen 5900x by £200 at least but thanks for the suggestion . One can always find the next version up be it cameras or computers that offer better which is why it is imperative to stick to a budget and go no further

I already have a 750w PU and a Gforce GTX1050Ti Graphics card

Thank you all again for your help -advice and ideas. Spoke to my son about it and he agrees the items suggested put the cost too high. So he is orderering what I posted initially and now ordering from scan computers.
looks as if everything wil arrive tomorrow so may be away for a few days with the build and installing apps

New computer in and working on Windows11 thanks mainly to my son Ben. first of all the computer case design is so much better for fitting components in, now can get 2xSSD and 2 x HDD additional drives without taking up much space. the main thngs I notice is what a difference with sound even the stereo effect is so much better. Still used the same graphics card here again unless my imagination the picture appears to be sharper. No problem with startup and a bit quicker. Downside is the task bar settings are now in the centre and working out what is what is a pain at the moment. Also replaced the 3 cooling fans at the front with 2 better larger fans according to my son will perform better.

Having done that the Epson XP-950 decided after 9 years to old waste ink pads needed replacing. having found where they were via youtube managed to remove the pad containers order new and fitted via instruction and code that came with the replacement pak

When you say the task bar settings are now in the centre, are you meaning the start menu etc? If so they can be moved to the left in the settings.

I don't like Windows 11. Start up time is a little slower, no more live tiles to group my start menu shortcuts, doubling up with right mouse click context menus etc.

Graham
I have found out how to move task bar items to the left.
