A company that rents out high-end digital camera equipment to clients across the country has suspended its service after several of its packages were stolen while being transported by Canada Post.
On its website, Lens Rentals Canada said it is not taking any new orders due to "serious issues with the Canada Post Corporation."
Craig Blair, the company’s owner, said large quantities of equipment began disappearing on July 15. Due to an ongoing investigation, Blair could not say exactly how much equipment he had lost, or how much it cost, but said multiple boxes were taken over various dates.
“This is a stress we never thought we’d go through,” Blair told CBC News.
“We figured every three or four years you’d lose something.
We just didn’t think it would happen in one giant lump sum.”

Just my experience.

We send 100's of items a week via RM and can count on one hand the number of items that have gone missing or reported damaged.
We also send a lot via courier and I probably spend at least an hour a day on the phone to couriers chasing lost, delayed, damaged, delivered to the wrong address, left in the rain goods.

Our postie's a star! We were out a few days ago when he was doing our road but he spotted us (Mrs Nod's car is fairly distinctive!) on our way home so came back up the hill to deliver the package. He's also flagged us down as we're heading out to give us any packages. Just wish he could train his relief, who is unable to distinguish letters or numbers although intriguingly we get post for either the right number but wrong road or the other way round, almost never to the completely wrong address!

When you say "we also send a lot via courier", do you mean real couriers or are you talking about the big parcel delivery networks such as TNT, CityLink, DPD, and the like?

Citylink ( the worst of the bunch), FedEx, DHL, DPD, UK Mail.
Currently using DHL who are so far not as bad, but they still have the odd driver that doesn't deserve his job.

I thought as much. A case of spouting without actually knowing what you're talking about. There are hundreds of independent courier companies dotted around the country (me being one of them) and with this - "Certainly a darn site better than any courier company" - you have asserted that we are all worse than Royal Mail. Personally, I've never lost a single consignment or delivered to the wrong address; even in central London. I've never left goods unattended in the rain or otherwise. Everything has to be signed for at the point of delivery. I am a courier and I transport and deliver consignments that are too important or valuable to entrust to the cheapo companies you use. I transport and deliver consignments that they would not touch due to size or weight. I transport and deliver urgent consignments that had to be there yesterday. ... I do not deliver parcels.

Learn the difference between courier companies and parcel delivery companies.

I wish people would learn the difference between a courier company and a parcel deliver

ˈkʊrɪə/

1.
a company or employee of a company that transports commercial packages and documents.
"the cheque was dispatched by courier"
synonyms: messenger, special messenger, dispatch rider, letter carrier, mail carrier, runner, bearer, message bearer, message carrier, delivery man, delivery woman, conveyor, envoy, emissary, harbinger, herald; More
a messenger for an underground or espionage organization.
"a courier disguised as a commercial traveller"

You can call them what you want mate. To me they are a courier and Royal Mail are better then they are.
I'm sure that running a small business yourself you do your best to ensure parcels are delivered correctly and on time, but in my business where customers expect cheap or even free delivery, we have to consider price when choosing a courier, but does that mean we should expect shoddy service?
At then end of the day you can't beat Royal Mail for small parcels.
Unfortunately they don't ship batteries or we would use them for most of our shipments.

Well if you have consider price as a prime requisite you'll probably never have to worry about getting a courier to deliver for you. You'd probably sh*t yourself or fall off your chair at the quote stage.

You find DHL better than DPD?

Really?

Good old post office :(

Ordered £150 worth of stamps from the post office website. Sent recorded delivery and they have been lost. Well done Royal Mail!! :(

Would have been funnier if they'd arrived with postage due!

Should have been sent special delivery as they are above the insured limit! ;)

They were. Tracking is not recognised and they have no idea where they are at the mo.

Special delivery usually gets there, but any cheaper options proved to be very unreliable where I lived. Its all about a few bad individuals in the sorting office or delivery van. Also it would seem the Canada ones were not special deliveries or their equivalent.

You couldn't make it up could you? :(

I hope they a appear at some point :)

Currently using dpd for a big project involving sending and picking up parcels from a number of uk addresses over a period of about 3 months. We switched from City link after we spent the first 3 weeks chasing parcels, wrong parcels delivered to wrong addresses, parcels lost (we current have a significant number of claims going through). We even had a chainsaw delivered to us that was supposed to go to one of the addresses.

So far dpd and their customer service have been excellent.

Also I've worked as a motorbike courier in the past. They have much higher standards than any parcel delivery company.

Not a lot of consolation but you aren't the only one this happened to this week, seems there were system problems from where the stamps are sent
Hope it's sorted

Most businesses and services can easily get an unfair reputation because people are very quick to post a bad review of a service but say nothing when everything goes to plan.

Steve.

I'm impressed that a package from Japan can spend longer in this country than in Japan or en route without me having it.

Thanks, HMRC and ParcelFarce International, working together to really bloody annoy me. (y)

I find that's the same with anything tbh.
Had a bad hotel stay? Jump on Trip Advisor and roast the hotel. Had a fantastic stay? Go home happy and content and never give a thought for online praise.
Same with restaurants....stores...websites et al.
With online reviews the negatives will always win out.

For the most part Royal Mail are competent. Certainly a darn site better than any courier company.
Royal Mail Special Delivery is absolutely excellent. The only one of the big networked couriers I'd put in the same league is DPD.

How about this one - which I got hold of yesterday
