Hey,
I'm looking to invest in my first camera bag but am unsure really where to go as I'm still new to this game.

I want the bag to last, even if I upgrade the body a year or two down the line or get a new lens in a month or so. Although at first it will just be need for a DSLR (D3100), a lens or two and spare cards/battery and general things. But most of all I would like the knowledge that my camera would be safe.

I like the look of the think tank retrospective 5 but don't really know much about the company as I have never owned their products.

£150 is the very m top of my price range but under £100 would be best.
I like the shoulder style bags but have no objections to backpacks.
I would quite like it to be discreet and not obviously a camera bag.

Sorry for the list of requirements but here seems like the best advice!
Massive thanks
Harry

I have 3 ThinkTank bags, including one Retro series bag. They all are very high quality products. I have Retro10, which is a bit bigger than the 5. It fits my camera very well, can hold extra lens, flash and accessories + iPad in front pocket.

I would suggest trying out the bags in shop before you buy any, to see if they are what you were looking for. But I don't think you will be disappointed with ThinkTank.

I use Think Tank products and have been very impressed with them.

Thanks for the suggestions.

The lowpro is a really nice bag but looks a little big for what I would use it for, although it really impressed me for the price.

Oskar, does your I pad fit well in the 10 or is it a tight fit, and also, it says a rain cover is included but if you forget it and you get caught having a short dash through the rain, will the water get in?

Thanks
Harry

In the front pocket it is quite loose fit.

It also fits in side ways, but then its not as good fit in my opinion.

While the ThinkTank does not say it is rain proof. I have walked through rain with this bag few times, it gets wet but no water got in. :) So I would say it is quite safe, also depends on the rain (never tried heavy rain, just light rain).

I use ThinkTank for all my gear. I've got a rolling bag, a rucksack, glass taxi, retrospective 30 and the belt system. One of those bags is in use pretty much everyday. I cant fault them for durability and build quality, they just work.
However there are plenty of other bag manufacturers out there, just whatever suits you. One of the good things about the ThinkTanks, is they don't shout "camera bag".

Thanks for the advice, and massive thanks for that pic oskar :)

Yup, Thinktank rocks. I have the Shapeshifter and modular belt packs. The SS is the best press photographer's bag I think that anyone's come up with yet. So well planned out with all the right pockets and zips.

Howdy, thanks for the nice feedback everyone... Pyro - If you need any specific help (though looks like you're sorted) please let me know!

The Retro series do have a water resistant treatment, they're not waterproof - but I've had mine out (three songs at a time) in UK festival weather (rain / mud / flying beer) and nothing got wet. (but I would say that, right!! Hah)

Have you considered Billingham, take a look on Ebay

Just took a look at billingham and there Hadley small seems to be the perfect size, but I can't find any pictures of the inside. Do you happen to know how it is divided, it did mention dividers being compatable but are they included/easy to aquire?
Also, are billingham an easy company to deal with if I had a problem, they seem like quite an 'independent' company? (probably badly phrased, sorry)

Think tank seem very popular and it's very close between the billingham and the think tank, it's a tough one.

Thanks
Harry

I didnt think to you tube it, that was me being silly, thank you for the help, it's really, well, helpful!:)

I was told off for advising someone else to google a reply, as I thought most people did, I was just trying to help, glad I did this time.

Regards

Normally I would but it had slipped my mind.

For anyone interested I have decided to gofer the think tank retrospective 5.
It's a tiny bit more than the billingham but with the rain cover and inserts I would say it looks worth but in the end the decider was that I just prefer the style of the retrospective. It is well thought out and looks like a really nice bag. I look forward to getting mine.:)

Thanks again for the help.
