How to drive...

I really wish id spent the time learning to drive and spent the money buying a car before I started getting into such an expensive hobby.

I really think that my photography would be much better if I had chance to attend half the events that I want to... instead of having to hitch a lift all the time and rely on other folk with similar interests. At most events im happy to stay until it goes dark, but, 9 times out of ten my lift wants to go well before im finished.

DSLR's are inevitable....

Spent too much time and money on P&S, before realising i needed the flexabilty of a DSLR.

But after saying that i still carry my Fuji F31fd everywhere with me, just in case.

our business is tough. You go to college and come out with some concept of composition but that’s about it. There are no jobs, there is no formal career structure, and nothing to help you along after you leave. You construct your own career ladder, without instructions.

I've heard this time and time again from the older generation of photography experts. I have two older friends that are working in camera stores to bide the time before they land a career in photography. It is pretty disappointing considering it's such a wonderful and enjoyable skill to have :(

@Petemc - Do you consider yourself lucky to have a career in photography? Does it make you feel great to know that you was chosen out of the many people doing the same thing? I for one envy you for sure!

As for the purpose of the topic -- I only started properly about a year ago so I guess I can't say much. I used to use presets a lot back then when I should have been using manual settings accordingly. Anyone can use presets and create a beautiful shot. I simply hate people now that say:

"All you do is point and click"

Eugh. Go away! :p

Everything I listed in the "what every aspiring photographer should know" post I put up awhile ago. Had to learn it all the hard way.
