Anything worth going to visit whilst i'm there for the up and coming week .

Motor museums? (i'm a bit of a petrolhead)

Any other kind of stuff ?

Hadrians wall weather depending.

Things to do in Newcastle? Catch a train to Edinburgh? :)

I was there recently and didn't find it very inspiring.. The highlight was the Angel of the North up close..

If you want a decent motor museum, aim for Coventry in the future. Decent motor museum in the city centre (they have one of the thrust world record breakers there) and the motorcycle museum 10 miles away between Coventry and Birmingham.

That thing is small!!

I am not sure how big I was expecting it to be, but driving past it and looking at it I was disappointed.

Good list above,

Personally I've never been impressed with the Baltic apart from the view looking out from upstairs.

There is another gallery called The Biscuit Factory which is worth a look, has a bit of allsorts, sculpture, paiting and photography, its not over big but I always enjoy looking around it.

Now that's a list, thanks so much for that, just a pity the weather's been atrocious since we arrived yesterday afternoon, not seen rain like this for a long time.

Thanks Becca for going to the trouble of posting this

not in Newcastle but not far, there's Bedes World at Jarrow (NE32 3DY), which is a museum of early medieval life in Northumberland.

Beer flowing a treat just now. Will check out later.

The bits along the river bank are nice and could prove a good photo location. I especially like the area around the railway bridge.

The roman wall is also a nice thing to see, there are some really beautiful sceneries.

don't mean to hijack the thread. but it's related, and since you've got a comprehensive list, thought I'd ask on the side.

How about somewhere for a romantic evening and then a day out?

visiting Edinburgh for 2 days, then stopping at Newcastle for one night on the way back. any recommendations?

china town (stowell street) is good if you like chinese food - go down and see the keep and explore the newcastle side of the swing bridge - old tudor houses and 'secret' passageways and dog leap stairs, there's also an old Vicorian tunnel nearer the court building

if you are going to Beamish also check out Causey Arch

if you like country walks head to Swalwell (near the Metrocentre) and look for the Derwent Walk

Newcastle is a beautiful city and I lived there my whole life minus these last 10 years, if the work was there I'd go home in a shot - it is also one of the safest cities in the country! because it is hemmed in by the cheviots, the pennines and the north york moors with the sea on the west (and NO motorways going there) you have a large city without the sprawl which has occurred in places like Liverpool (now joined to Manchester), Birmingham, Nottingham and London. This has kept it isolated and so it retains a lot of the same charm that was there in the 50s and 60s

if you have time also visit the Northumberland coast - loads of castles and gorgeous coastal towns like Amble and Craster, not to mention Druridge Bay

have fun anyway :)
