hi guys and gals

i have a week in cornwall coming up with the new girlfriend, in july...

i was wondering what photo opportunities ther are to be had there, and also things to do while we are down there :D

thanks for your help

Mat

the holiday makers and loads of roadworks, even longer getting around!!!
there are miles of coastal walks and the mineral tramway with all the old mine workings if you like that sort of thing, or huge gardens to visit which are very photogenic.

You have miles and miles of coastlines, moorlands and such, a big selection of birds and animals, a good selection of land and seascapes, old monuments and such..

The downside is, pretty much anything you'll think of photographing already has a few hundred pictures on the net of it.

My best advice is to not bother with lands end, it's a lovely place, he views are marvellous, and in July the chance of you being able to get a good shot without someone else with a camera in it are next to none.

Whereabouts are you staying though? I may be able to recommend less touristy places to go to knowing that, and also what sort of days out you enjoy.

thanks for all the tips guys i will have a little look in to it..

thanks gemma.. i will be staying at st austell. i have been to cornwall alot in my life and seen quite a bit of i, this post was mainly to see what i might have missed so as your from cornwall yourself you may know something i dont :D

i like coast walks. nice beaches...um things to do for me and the 'misses' haha...we are camping at a place called carlyon bay camp site and if it rains i will be seriously stuck for things to do if you know what i mean...

thanks
Mat

If you're staying in St Austell then the Eden Project is just a few miles away and well worth a visit, if you haven't been before.

New GF...? Are you sure you want to spend all week taking photos?

Come out of the campsite and walk up-to the top of the hill and get on the coastal path, turn left and walk across the golf course and follow the coastal path past Par beach and along to Polkerris where you can have a beer and some food at the Rashliegh , carry on walking on the coastal path to Fowey.... more beer and a taxi home. Fetch your bikes and cycle the Camel Trail - get on at Bodmin, lost gardens of heligan and the Eden Project...loads to do and see...........but much better in October ;)

Nice area... I'm biased though! :D

For beaches par beach is nearby and is quite a nice sandy beach, there's also a duck pond adjacent, though you do have to pay to park this time of year.

There's another pond in par with a big grassy area and a woodland area you can go to.

If I think of more I'll add it later :)

There's a wood called Kings Wood heading out to mevagissey way.

There's always Newquay zoo if that's your kind of thing, or head up to bodmin and go hiking over the moors a little, plenty of wildlife always. Or dartmoor if you want to go further afield.

I'd jump over to this website - http://www.cornwall-beaches.co.uk/ - if you look at what pictures there are, the less sandy type beaches will be quieter that time of year, so if you're happy to put up with slightly more pebbly sand they may be a better bet.

carlyon is in a good area...coastal walks are there and not far from mevagissey and gorran haven...we did a caravan holiday in schnozzle

you arent far from truro and/or st ives...then down to penzance and newlyn
on to lands end and sennen....loads of coastal walks and moors
at madron there is the ding dong mine and carn galver
all my old hunting grounds

you can always fall back on the eden project for a relaxing and very humid time..in the jungle dome

this is brilliant guys and gals..thanks for your help :D

looks like i am going to have a fun filled week :D weather permitting ;)

A couple of options, not coastal but well worth visiting are, the Luxulyan Valley and for amazing desolate lunar type landscapes try some of the accessible old clay pits.

Ooooh why didn't I think of mentioning luxylyan valley?! It's beautiful down there, a big river runs down, some places you can park up too. Nice thought!

Oi leave my nice quite valley alone ;)...........more of a stream really and a bit bare as they've removed a lot of the trees / vegetation due to some disease.

If you go to the North coast the sunsets from Gwythian sands is fabulous. :)

(Just back from a week there and utterly chilled)

Luxulyan Valley = great rope swings. I never quite trust them but can never resist it.

I've lived in Cornwall my whole life, anything bigger than a foot wide is a river :D

Haven't been there for a few months. Last time I went there was a real wreck of a car at 1 point  Or maybe the time before actually..

David, where is your part?

booooooooooode (also known as Bude) well am in a village nearish but people have actually heard of bude:p

Probably because it's the end of Cornwall the rest of us try to pass off as Devon :p

Actually it's quite a nice area, I think people just forget about it as it's not quite as touristy as down here.

its MORE touristy down there? **** a brick.

town gets chocca and supermarkets put the prices up even here :(

went down to trebarwith stands t'other day nice down there, ended up climbing through a cave :p

Yup, I'm only about 10 miles from Newquay :gag: Luckily I'm in a village now a town, so we don't get it too bad, just when we leave the village

Lurve Bude :) Used to spend a lot of time there when I lived in Gloucestershire because it was accessible once they finished the dual carriageway. :)

MUCH prefer Cornwall out of season. Relatively clear roads, parking's easier, pavement's aren't full of people bigger than me, beaches fairly clear, fewer screaming brats, seats in pubs (and food takes minutes rather than hours!). Same with Dartmoor.

Most of my favourite places are on the North coast - Tintagel, Boscastle, Trebarwith Strand - mainly because that's a nice, easy hop down the A30 with a trip up the side roads just after Launceston. Last time I headed down the South coast, they were still making the new roads...
