Hey all.
I have been asked by a friends daughter if i will take some studio / model shots of her, she wants them for practice and if any good her portfolio as she is just starting out.

She is 16.

The shots will be quite simple, just the model in front of the camera etc.

I have asked the parents and they are okay with it.

Having never done photography of anyone under the age of 17, is there anything i should be mindful off (legal etc)?

Also are there a good ready compiled set of questions i can ask.
Should i find / write up some form of agreement / checklist of what is okay for her parents.

I suspect her expectations are slightly less conservative than her parents.

Thanks

The stand out must do...is..... have someone else in the room.. do not shoot young girls on your own..If possible on eof her parents present would be best but I doubt the model would go for that :)

I never shoot models under 18

But, If I were too, I have a section in my contract which requires the parents or guardian's signature which agrees to the terms.

I have just never used this part of my contract because even though I have it, I still choose not to photograph girls under 18.

When I think about it, media and the way people look at men in general has "scared" me into avoiding it.

Types of Releases

Adult Release: This is the form most commonly referred to as a "model release". The language of this release is intended for use by models over the age of 18 (the age of majority)

Minor Release: This variant of the model release contains language referring to the model (who is a minor) in the third-person, and required signature by a parent or other legal guardian of the model. A release which is not signed by a parent or guardian affords no legal protection to the publisher.

Group Release: This is a modified version of the Adult Release which includes additional signature lines to accommodate use by multiple models or subjects in a single image.

The OP has been asked by the girl to take the photographs for her use so a model release is not required by the photographer just for taking photographs.

I would insist on having a parent present.

Steve.

Personally, I would take the "belt and braces" approach of having not only a parent present but someone you know as an "assistant".
