I recently noticed that my Elinchrom studio lights looked a bit different:

Each of the screw holes appeared to be filled with what looked to be wall filler/cement or something similar:

On scraping it out - I found the remnants of a few dead flies, and this little chap:

It's amazing where nature decides to rear its young, but my lights are not such a suitable place... So now all the screw holes are taped over.

I bet nobody else has had things living in their studio lights quite like this :)

ewwww. Must be because of the heat from the lights and I guess with the flash, its attracting the bugs. I wouldnt be surprised if theres a lot of it happening - you been shooting outdoors as well, by any chance ?

Clearly, some mummy bug thought the heat would keep her baby bugs nice and warm and sealed them in to keep them snug ...! Might be a good idea to fettle them out, and back fill the screw holes with blue tack or something to stop them getting in again..... unless you're an avid conservationist and feel it necessary to let nature take it's course, in which case, leave them be until they hatch out!!

Nope - only shot indoors. I've cleared all the holes - but there's still some residue of this white stuff which is pretty tough! I will be sealing once I've worked out how to clean it off.

I don't mind nature being natural, and usually happy to let nature take its course, but on this occasion I want to drive them away. I want my lights to be lights, not a nature conserve for wasps or hornets...
