Well..
After just catching up with a fellow tog, over in South Africa.
He informs me several of his colleagues have had gear stolen from the sidelines of SA games, ranging from laptop leads all the way upto to 1DMk4's and Macbook Pro's. Fair enough if it was local thugs, but it has been found out to be SA volunteers  - I suppose they just couldn't resist the temptation of a BRAND NEW Macbook Pro ?
This brings me on to the topic has any of you shooters had any gear stolen/damaged at sports venues.
Should be interesting to hear the stories.
Keep Shooting :geek:

Hi Mark. Just a small point, the sports forum is for photo sharing. I have moved this to Talk Photography (I moved your other thread earlier as well.)

Not surprised...if anything is not nailed down (even that doesn't help sometimes!) in SA it is likely to go walkies.:(

Sounds like opportunistic thefts to me, if they used kensington cable locks on the laptops, this sort of thing might not happen.

Same as, if you leave a satnav on the windscreen of your car, someone is likely to put the window through to get it.

However the world Cup is very high profile and thieves know that, so the will try it.

Nearly got my 70-200 and TC damaged at a kids football tournno this weekend when a lad decided to kick the ball at me!

No harm done luckily!

Anth.

Cholmondely Pageant of Power, first year. I was shooting by the bridge, getting the cars coming over. In the media area ahead of the crowd.....300 f2.8 taken from UNDER my arms. I swapped and was shooting with 70-200, it was on its hood under my arms whilsyt I was shooting. It HAD to be a fellow photographer as we were ahead of the crowd barriers.
