I contacted the Squirrel survey co-ordinator yesterday with a view to recording my sightings up at the hide. E mailed a couple of pics thinking he would be interested in looking at them. Nothing more just for his pleasure.
He now wants to meet me & has already asked if he can use the two I emailed him.
He also wants to see more of my stuff too. Be nice to see my pictures used instead of just being on file on a computer.:)

Hey thats fantastic news, Charlie.

Like you say... sometimes its just nice to get your pictures out there for viewing regardless of payment., instead of just sitting on your pc.

On the other hand, it could be the beginnings of bigger things.

One thing is for sure...........he will not find any shots of Red Squirrels that are any better than yours.

do you have a link to any of your photos?

Those pictures deserve recognition Charlie, well done.....

congrats - a new line of business???

I'm hardly surprised, the quality of you photos are excellent if you look on the Anglesey Red Squirrel conservation website the photos are very grainy and to far away whereas in yours you can even see the hide in one of the squirrels eyes.

I suspect that the cameras used were just normal point and shoot types and just taken by the volunteers who work there.

I like all the photos in your gallery and just hope I can do the same someday;)

Well what can I say. Thank you all for the very kind comments.Totally gobsmacked at all the good wishes. It is all down to this forum though. Some of the pictures on here are really excellent & I am just trying to keep up.

There was a time not so very long ago when I thought about giving up photography as I was not happy with my work. I still have much improving to do yet though.

Two people on this forum deserve a special mention for getting me going again.

The first is CT. His pictures of common garden birds should be an inspiration to us all. It was his pictures that made me want to do better & this resulted in the hide being built. I dont have a long lens & have no plans to get one so I need the birds (Squirrels) to come closer. Hope he approves of my efforts!

The second person who deserves praise is none other than Janice
Janice visited Scotland last autumn & came to meet Mrs Sawman & myself. Boy is she a photographic bully. None of this auto stuff when she is around. Spot meter & manual " you stupid boy"
She isnt frightened to tell me "thats crap" Charlie . Did me the power of good. She still canna get me to get excited about Photoshop though!

If my pictures do in fact get used then the honour does not just come to me It is for all the folk on here who have commented & when I stick on a duffer who ignore it. That keeps me on my toes too.

Thanks again folks.

I think you are being very modest, your pics are superb and you deserve praise!

Great work

'visualisetheworld' you can see some of the images by clicking on sawman's gallery. You find it just under his name by his posts.

Congrats Charlie well deserved too IMHO

Thanks again folks. Sorry Visualisetheworld I should have told you that!
If my pictures are used it will be nice to know I have done a wee bit to help raise awareness of the threats to our native Red Squirrel.

Congratulations Sawman. I hope it leads to even bigger things for you .

Great going Charlie. I used to look forward to the 'reds' in my parents garden, but they've just moved into Edzell a couple of weeks ago, so no more to spot :(

the photographic bully

Oi! I resemble that remark! :D

Well, you know what these men are like... dont like change!

I seriously thought Charlie was going to stop taking photos to be honest... so I gave him a virtual kick up the arse!!! :D

 Congratulations on the possibilities Charlie! And well done Janice for giving such an effective ass kicking

congrats

Nice one Sawman.

Hmm sounds like I need photo guru aka Janice!

SPOT METER!!! MANUAL!!! What do these terms mean??? lol..

WEll done Sawman.. its so nice to hear about the people on here getting the recognition they deserve.. congrats..

That's very gracious, well done on the pics and good luck :)

Charlie - you emabarrassing git! ;)

I can't deny getting a huge buzz out of thinking I've motivated someone to get out there and have a go, and anyway, why should I be the only one cursed with this obsession.

Thanks mate, but the quantum leap in the standard of your work is self evident, particularly since you got the hide, and living in the environment you do, it would be criminal for any wildlife tog to think about packing it in. :nono:

Congrats on the squidgers!

:clap::clap: Great news; and well deserved.
Your pictures are amazing!

Well I have been blushing too with all the kind comments I have received. Thank you also for saying my work has improved. The D 300 did help a bit there too. As did the ass kicking from Janice. Last time she visited I got to carry her bags too:thinking:
I am very lucky getting free access to the hill & woods where I can roam at will. Mind you the owner Gordon tends to do a lot of "I have been thinking" which usually means he wants something! He is a kind hearted soul though.
A wee note about the pregnant Squirrel. She has disappeared so maybe she is away having her young uns.
