The more press coverage I see of this, the more I think that the EU have asked for about double what they really want so strong man Cameron can "negotiate" them down. My guess is we'll settle on somewhere just under €1B to be paid in March.

I think you are right....Just hope people will remember that labour wants to do the exact same to us residents in the UK...Just don't forget that...
 
How can the turnover from illegal "industries" be taken into account in making up the figure? By their very nature, these cash flows generate no income for the nation (and are often run by non locals to boot!)

Just before the Rochester by-election as well..... handed to UKIP on a plate.
 
That's what you get when your ministers ignore the national statistics and don't even communicate with each other. They must have know way earlier and discuss it with the EU while there was still time. Oh well, they decided to make into political battle instead.

Somehow they didn't complain when they got rebate all the previous years. And they could have rebalanced the budget in time and have more public spending, etc. This government is really past its sell by date.

They will clearly get no sympathy from Brussels after being so downright nasty. I even suspect this had something to do with the size of the figure. Go eat it con-dems.

When did the possibility that UKIP wll win enough seats to form a coalition with any other party become anything but laughable? :thinking:
 
by next year everyone will have forgotten - my money is on a fragmented parliement with a minority labour government and virtually nothing getting done

Quite recently. There appear to be proper people running scared of this as unlikely as it sounds. I think I heard that they are at 19% of the vote this morning which is colossal - though as the Lib Dems always managed to prove it's not votes, it's seats.

There's some analysis here (http://www.electoralcalculus.co.uk/Analysis_UKIP.html) that explains that 20% support is the tipping point. Anything over that and they start to gain ground pretty rapidly. I'm not sure I understand why people are calling Rochester as so close - common sense seems to suggest they will walk it.
