Whilst France get a GBP 790 Mil rebate.

I don't hold France responsible by any means but surely applying levies on a country for economic growth is counter productive.......it's like giving someone on the file a bonus fit being lazy and taxing all the worker's extra to cover the bonus .......

unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!

cameron tell them to do one:mad::bat:

Crazy!

I know not everyone agrees (and I hate Cameron with a passion), but we have done well economically. While this may not have fully come down to every person on the street (and some are still affected by wage freezes and low rises) things are much better and the foundations are there. Many people are getting pay rises and jobs for many are far more secure. But in order to do that we have come through some tough years. There is no way on earth we should then give 1.7bn away just like that.

I appreciate I am no fan of the EU, but the way they do things (like corruption) and then demand money like this simply feed the anti EU brigade - If I was a pro EU person I would be cringing every time they open their mouths as it will just push the UK further to an exit!

I have just been reading into this and apparently one of the reasons that this has happened is down to the good old Sex Worker...

FUNNY HEY!!

PAY UP UK YOU HAVE MORE! YOU NEED TO GIVE MORE!!

end of.

This is the very same way the UK government treat its citizens - Look after your money, tighten your belt and save a little - the government want more! and will give you less

Now the EU are the "person" on benefits and the UK has to pay LOL

Who's in charge of that calculator? apparently Greece owe £71 million too. I need that guy to sort out my TAX return :)

Basically they are saying "you have managed your economy pretty well while we have messed ours up so you owe us money RIGHT NOW"?

This all looks very very odd to me. It's almost like one of those engineered crises to cause a huge kerfuffle in order to get something even more unpleasant through while nobody is watching. Almost.

In fact, it's politicians. It's definitely a trick.

In fact, any thought of paying any of this and Cameron may as well just hand the keys to number 10 to UKIP. There's no way even he would do this in an election year.

It's so blatant it has to be a trick.

I will admit I don't understand this things to any level.

The article I read effectively however stated that changes had been made, and effectively it looks like we got rebates previously but that was due to not actually declaring, or including certain information in our figures. Other countries did. So they overpaid, we underpaid. This addresses that. It's not a rise per se.

I've not read much more than that.

Whats more of a concern is that this has only come out because of a leak at the EU end.

It seems this was being kept quiet to stop that justified outcry from the public and boost to UKIP.

Cameron needs to grow some if he's to stave off that and tell the EU to go and do one!

Its things like this that make me support leaving the EU. The basic idea of free trade accross a few countries is a good idea but taking our money and spending it elsewhere (like France) isn't what we signed up for. Fiscally it would be good for Britain to leave it or negotiate trade treaties but nothing more than that. And that won't be hard given how much EU stuff we import and buy (BMWs etc). We do not need the EU and this proves it as they want/need OUR money,.

Upset Junker some more or guarantee to lose the election. Not a tough choice TBH.
Agree, can`t see him backing down or he will deffo lose the election.

There was an episode of Yes Minister where they engineered a Euro-crisis exactly like this so they could take a stand against it and win an election.

But that was fiction of course.

I hope this is the final nail in the condems coffin they cant recover from.....

Just goes to show why they (eu) don't want us to leave!

Every year there is a forecast and money is paid, then come the end of the year final valuations are done and some countries are asked for more whilst some get a rebate.

Is this not a payment on the last decade or so where Britain hasn't included 'black market' economies like drugs and prostitution?

I don't see the issue with Britain being asked to pay it (amongst other countries), the issue is a decade of 'corrections' are expected to be paid within 5 weeks

How can anyone work out the black market turnover......? Surely that's the point of black market economies.......I just think the EU are just trying to cash in......bring on the Revolution! :)

So what's in it for us? Why should we suffer to give other countries more money.

[PLEASE DON'T TRY TO BYPASS THE SWEAR FILTER] all in it for us......I listened to the German representative for the EU......cheeky fecker.....told us to shut up and pay up........my neighbour is German and he is feckin furious at that attitude.......his words....."I am embarrassed to be a German"........

.

Its political b*****ks because cameron wants to limit freedom of movement in the EU , he's broken rank on that so its a shot over his bows to bring him back in line. Though i'm no lover of cameron the bully boy tactics do bring out my "british pluck" and make me say f*** you fritz /piere take your contribution and ram it.

Whilst I can see some of the logic around the rules in it. I really don't agree with it and see it as a silly move timing wise.

However it is no different than Labour if they get back into power who are want to drag everyone down to the lowest denominator opposed to reward success.

We've previously signed up to, agreed to and benefited from. I bet every other year this has happened you've not even known about it - this year is worse because we've not been including everything we've meant to (whilst other countries have!)

It's about predicting it the best you can. Germany have no problem reporting on prostitution because it is legal, regulated and taxed - they've actually got it better than us as they're paying into the European pot from something they tax - we'e paying for something that the government get no revenue from

Let me educate you, Rick, about the supposed benefits, because I only was only told this yesterday. In 41 of the 42 years we've been members of the European Union, we've been a nett contributor! Only in one year were we paid out more than we paid in and that wasn't under any Thatcher government nor was it when the country was bankrupt and borrowing from the IMF.

It's, of course, quite coincidental that the only time the EU paid out to GB was in 1975 ... the year of the Referendum!

We're the 6th (IIRC) largest economy in the world, and 2nd (maybe 3rd behind Germany and France) largest in Europe - we're never going to get out more than we put in!

I was referring to benefitting from a rebate for overpaying in previous years

Indeed and once upon a time I voted to remain in a group with six other large western European economies. Not 21 subsequent small client states.

quote i liked in this mornings paper:
on Cameron - "He couldn't afford to be out-angered by Nigel Farage," accompanied by a pic of a red faced cameron.
