These young girls travelling to Syria

Religion causes more problems than it solves......

You have a view so no-one else can live their life if it contradicts that view. OTOH if someone impinges on your freedom they are executed. Is that how it works?

So you're saying Religion is wonderful? It's for dreamers and the weak minded. hoping and clinging on to something after this life. Pah!! It's here and now! and on the other side of the coin is what you are seeing in the Middle East a minority of people wanting to rule in the name of religion over the majority. Religion held back science and medical progression over the last 2000 years....
Man would far further forward if it weren't for RELIGION holding it back as a way to control the uneducated masses.

People of science? oh scary burn them for being free thinking!!!!!

any way not fussed about an argument.... As all mankind will p***ed when they shrug off their mortal coil and find nothing. ZIP. Just mans belief on hoping on an afterlife because the real one has treated them bad and their must be something better? LOL

And on the other side of the coin we all know Darwin was a pansy.

We are all here from alien life form that put us here...... You just have to look at Tom Cruise and John Travolta to see that!!!!

Where else could they have come from?

@Daryl I have deep religous convictions and am a successful company director I certainly dont describe myself as you would see me. I think there is to much pushing peoples own opinions on to others on this forum most threads seem to go the same way.

All of the above is irrelevant. It is your opinion and is worth no more than anyone else's.

I'm not debating religion's merits or otherwise. What I'm saying is your position is untenable. In one breath you say that people who fight against the freedoms we have in the UK are treasonous and should be executed and then in the next breath you state your wish to ban one of these very freedoms. This lack of logic is what I was drawing attention to.

Amen to that brother!

IMHO, anyone who decides to leave this country to take up arms or merely support these inhumane monsters may as well leave their passports at the port/airport they leave from and waive any right to a return to the UK....... perhaps with the only exception being when it can be proved without a doubt that they had acted under severe duress i.e. their families had been threatened.

"Free-speech" is banded about too much, if I stood outside a Police station and started spouting off about how much I disliked the "pigs" (just using this term for illustration purposes) and that I wish them and all their families would meet an untimely end I'm pretty sure I'd be arrested and dealth with accordingly. The shame should go for these "clerics" who are preaching hate, effectively towards the country that a lot of them have chosen to live in.

I've said it before on here and I'll say it again...... People who want to move to the UK from foreign countries are more than welcome, provided that they can support themselves, are willing to integrate with society in general and accept the widely held beliefs and values of this country. They are more than welcome to keep alive their own traditions and values provided they don't conflict with the laws of the land.

In actual fact, that should apply to anyone, not just people wishing to immigrate to the UK......

bearing in mind how religious fantatics treat anyone who doesnt agree with them that goes beyond irony to cobalty. most religions are not known for their tolerance of those with whom they disagree

I never said my opinion was did I ? Nope! like you just saying I don't care about religion It matters NOTHING. Pagan/Christian/Muslim/Judaism ... Matters not what you are I don't care.

What I do care about is MANKIND and HISTORY .HISTORY tells us that Religion has caused more violence and more wars than anything else throughout mans History.

If everyone got on with Life and living you wont have time to waist praying to idols and taking bits you like out of great books and discarding the preaching's you don't like.

Yet to find one religion that follows any of the Great Books
to the letter, but no one does. they all take what they like and disregard what doesn't suit them.

And if we look at History The Christian Church was started by the Romans. Then later you have Europe knocking seven bells out of each other ( Catholics V Protestants) all really from the same Book. Christians against Christians.
Romans had many Gods and yet because Christianity was becoming the more popular the made it the main Belief but kept all the Pagan festival dates.. Oh, let me think Christmas birth of Christ? Ah Ehhh! Roman Winter solstice... Very Christian.

So I was not saying my word is law although when I read it back....... :vulcan:

So rid the World of foolish believes and bingo we just have Greed and despots to deal with.....

So we can all agree to disagree that religion really has no purpose...

But no one will discuss why Darwin just joined the dots for ''Evolutionists' to rave about. No one has ever found a creature at the halfway stages of turning from one creature to another..... so again Evolution is filling in the gaps and guess work.

So Aliens are the answer!!!!! How else can we explain Tom Cruise and that other cave dweller John Travolta?????

and did you know..... Kepler-186f is an exoplanet orbiting the red dwarf Kepler-186,[4][5][6] about 490 light-years (151 pc) from the Earth.[1] It is the first planet with a radius similar to Earth's to be discovered in the habitable zone of another star. (Copy and paste)

Hope for their sake they don't have a Tom Cruise or John Travolta.........

Bloody aliens...... The trouble they cause.

Any way back on thread. those 3 girls? wont see them again. Who knows what they were thinking? Probably had enough of Top Gun and Staying Alive.

beyond irony to cobalty.
Did you make that one up Moose?
And in fact is it germane?

I can't cant find the word on Google, Cobalt I know is chemical element,
but as to the meaning here, you will have to explain :)

Meteoric Iron?

Cobolt follows iron on the periodic table...

So as above, it was actually an attempt at humour then.
(especially as cobalt is non ferrous)

Laterally thinking it's nickel after cobalt on the period table, or are we talking Tom Lehrer in which case you've missed americium
There's antimony, arsenic, aluminum, selenium,
And hydrogen and oxygen and nitrogen and rhenium
And nickel, neodymium, neptunium, germanium,
And iron, americium, ruthenium, uranium,
Europium, zirconium, lutetium, vanadium
And lanthanum and osmium and astatine and radium
And gold, protactinium and indium and gallium
And iodine and thorium and thulium and thallium.

I need to clarify! the next metal after iron is Ruthenium (in the transition metals series). No idea what logic the the words are in the above song apart from what may form the relevant rhythm...

Didn't do chemistry, do you not order by Atomic weight then?

Religion has nothing to do with being a Christian, they are not the same thing.

In fact religion is probably the biggest threat to Christianity to date

Ok I'll bite.
So what is Christianity?

The verticals are families, so for example, looking at the left hand side - lithium sodium potassium etc will share very similar characteristics. See this video for an example of the similar properties of the above elements

Sorry an' all that but the belief that a character from the Middle East appeared 2000 years ago, was the saviour of mankind and was the son of god is a religious belief and as man made as any other religious belief - no matter how you try to spin it.

I don't even undertstand what you are saying, please expalin with more clarity.

In the beginning man created god(s) to explain the world and the things he didn't understand. It's also a handy person to blame when things go wrong (the gods are angry), or to look for support.

Religions when teaching a set of morals are generally good, however with religion comes power and mankind as always will abuse power. Lets face it, the Christian church has been doing it for centuries, since inception?

Why should the Christian west be surprised as religious fanaticism, when we've had that in our history, spanish inquisition, salem witch trials, conquistadors, the crusades.

The meaning is I would have thought pretty clear from the context - a play on the word Irony, which mean both that something is ironic, and that something is like the metal Iron. - Cobalt is next to Iron in the periodic table (although as has been pointed out it doesnt actually follow it as you go down the columns not across the rows), so something that has extreme Irony (and thus goes beyon being Iron y) could be said to be cobalty (Its a common expression on other forums, not something I made up).

In this case the point i was making is thats extremly ironic for you toa ccuse Daryl (or the forum generally) of pushing their opinions on to others because they criticise religion , when "pushing their opinion on to others" has been the precise cause of most religiously motivated conflict in the last 2000 years (or longer). Virtually every religion seems to have adherent who are not contentto believe is sky pixies themselves, but want to persuade/coerce/force everyone else to believe in their bramd of sky pixieism too

In Ireland, until very recently we still had barbaric things being done to women, practices which were influenced by religion.

Abortion is still illegal in Ireland - again something which has been caused by religion.

Then we had the Magdalene laundry scandal.

A nice little lawsuit coming up.

You knew our little darlings were up to something but never told us, not that we'd have believed you anyway ;)

Wow bit fiery this thread.

i don't care what colour, race, religion anyone is. Fight against the freedoms of this Country = Treason Hang them all. Return the death penalty to Treason like the good ol days that were never really that good in the first place.

And Ban all Religion , yep all religion. even the pagan and hippy ones. Religion has only ever caused pain and heart ache . splits Families and Countries .
More wars more attacks, more heart ache caused in the name of Religion.
Except there is no after life and this is it..... you get one chance live it and make love to as people as possible......
.

Religion causes more problems than it solves......

You haven't stated your opinion? You've done nothing but give us your opinions on the subject. Anyway, I will leave you to it. Internet arguments aren't very productive and tend to engender hostility rather than enlightenment. We will agree to differ amicably ;)

The way I see it is there are two levels. On the first level there is faith, it's a personal thing that someone has inside them and I would assume is a great comfort to them and is used throughout their life. On level two there is religion, to my eyes religion is a set of rules applied to that faith by other men so they can control and manipulate people to their own ways and desires.

I have neither and believe this is the only time I'm here or anywhere else. Got to admit I can and do envy those with faith at certain times.

I don't think the religion argument is really that helpful.

The Christian religions are not exactly squeaky clean, and have in the past had some distinctly unpleasant things done in their name.

Why? Because its always been a persons decision, guided or not what that religion means and what its Deity wants from its followers. Whats happening now is no different with Islam.

Religion, and or faith is in itself not the issue, its like most of the problems in the world, it's all fine until people get involved!
