Except nothing in the PNR contains a DOB, even if it did, nothing is checked regarding permission to travel.

Both the UKBA and the airline have only a cursory interest on pax leaving the UK. The UKBA for intelligence, and if they aren't known, then there's no interest. The airlines only check you passport to prevent them being fined for carrying someone who presents themselves at a destination boarder with an invalid passport. In none of that is there any permission to travel check, irrespective of age. In any case, the 'ops wrong button pressed' excuse is a easy one to use.

The simple fact is, that MANY (not all) young girls from Sunni/Wahhabi families (usually a Pakistani background) have upbringings which are far more controlled and stricter than their peers from outside that particular cultural demographic.
If they were groomed, then was it done locally or via social networking? It looked to me as though they went quite willingly and planned the "excursion" quite well. They may well have had their own bank accounts, but if someone provided tickets then a lot of money wouldn't have been a priority.

Except none of that is my assumption. My point is that everything, from both sides is all assumption, all of it baseless at the moment. It's all "Oh they may be this sect' or 'They must have been groomed' and 'Someone must have paid for the tickets'. But like Steve shows with his comments about bank accounts and money, its based on pure assumption, the reality is that lots of teens, of all races have bank accounts, and money in them. People don't always have to be groomed to do things we might find repugnant and even Muslims who are tightly controlled manage to do things their parents don't approve of.


And Viv...Have you ever got anything constructive to say? I keep looking at what you write, and its very unusual for anything to be useful or that contributes to anything being talked about. Mostly it's snide comments about or too anyone you have taken a dislike to, or has contradicted you.

Unfortunately not quite on both counts. PNR is not mandated I think, however check out API ;)

Further more it isn't UKBA who does this either. So sorry but I disagree on all counts ....

I think you're talking about 2 different things.

Certainly as far as 1V,IG and 1P, the dob is not mandated because it's not stored within the PNR, there is no capacity to do so. I can't speak for 1S and 1A, I don't work for them, but TP's API's don't have that capacity. So it not being on the PNR means that it's reliant on the checkin staff to notice. Obviously using the electronic checkin where the barcode on the passport is scanned age or input error is more apparent. BUT, age or no age, it doesn't matter there is no check on a minor having permission to travel. The general assumption is that that check is there, it simply isn't.
UKBA or whatever its called this week, and or a CTEO would only be interested in a known pax, eg someone wanted, and most of those are only picked up on the way in, not out, or those who are minors who are subject of a reported Child Abduction case.

Anyone find it strange there's been nothing heard about the girls? With ISIS reportedly media savy and the amount of press coverage, I'd have expected some footage of the brave girls defending islamic rights by now.
