Thermal imaging!

Ok, its my silly question time again!

Is there such a thing as a thermal imaging camera or lens that does not cost the earth to buy or rent? Just something thats got me curious, and I think its a fun idea to see the different colours of heat on animals and birdies!!
 
It's quite common now for companies to take thermal images of electrical enclosures and control cabinets to predict failures and poor wiring connections. Some buy their own and others use a hire service like thiese folk

Yep, also for insulation efficiency, electrical inspections can reduce insurance premiums, lots of applications when you start looking into it !

Thanks for the link though, they start at a rather high purchase price to use as a toy, so I expect hire costs would be the same - when I win the lottery perhaps!!

You could fake the effect using Photoshop if you're looking for a cheap option.

You have been watching Big Cat Diary haven't you :) I used to use a thermal imaging camera in my work and to be honest you are looking at spending at least £20K to get anything like the images on BCD. Whilst I did that job I borrowed the camera to take some pictures of my computer, this is the web site http://homepage.ntlworld.com/bubo/ , it has some bonus pictures of my cats, it should still work I hope. That camera cost £35K back in 2001.

Thanks, I think I managed to get something like that effect one day without trying :lol: I just thought it would be fun to have a go with one!

:lol: no I don't often watch tv, and I don't have freeview so I would not get anything hat interesting anyway, person I was talking to could have seen it though which would explain a few things. Thanks for the link, Choo Choo looks like a devil cat :D
