Yes, so I have only had my license for a fortnight but jesus christ there are some idiots out there!!

Got overtaken by a Audi when I was doing 40 (in a 40) he made me look like i was going backwards.

A learner was doing a turn in the road so I slow right up to a halt to allow said learner to complete there manouver (with plenty of room, it was me two weeks ago) when some muppet in a Astra overtakes me and the que of cars and nearly has a head on collision with the learner then nearly takes my nose off. I gave him a choice hand signal for that manouvre. Knob. He then went left at 4 junctions without indicating. Once. It was a case of brake and lobit into the bend. Numpty.

Some chav hatch was right up me chuff and weaving left and eight blinding me with his lights through a 30.

Some stupid women pulled out on me when I was doing thirty and she was EXTREMLY close when she pulled out. I REALLY had to brake hard for that one. She even had the cheek to thank me.

So yeah, rant over

Oh yeah, that's another thing about driving a wee car, like a Corsa, you get eejits cutting you up and pulling out in front of you. I can't wait to give this stupid Fiesta the heave for exactly that reason :annoyed:

I am tempted to get a big friggin' bull bar for the front of it. That will teach 'em.

What annpoys me most is the people who fly past on the straight (20-30mph over the speed limit) and then slow down to 20mph to go round a bend that can be taken at 50-60mph comfortably.

Most people only have the ability to drive in a straight line, anything else confuses them, including correct use of indicators, sticking to the speed limit, generally being aware of what is happening on the road

Gah, straight line drivers, that is another thing!!! GRRRRRR.

I know I am not perfect and I have made a few mistakes but at least I have said sorry for them!!!

Or a range rover bodykit

I find that my big saab turbo lump tends to put people off pulling out in front of me mind - it's a lot of metal :D

Try being on a motorbike, then you really appreciate how often people don't look or think that the road is only there for them. I don't want to start a car v's biker debate here because I know that there are as many arses on bikes as in cars but it does bring it home to you when you're that vulnerable. I think that everyone should have a couple of hours pillion before taking to the road so that they can appreciate how crap drivers are and how much you need to keep your attention on the road.

Yeah, I always look twice for bikes :) There are some numpty bikers but there a majority that are good!! The other night, looked in over my shoulder/checked my mirrors before changing lane on a dualcarriageway and nothing was there. Checked as I was about to go and a bike appeared. He was hidden by the pillar at the back of my car!!

That isn't his fault

You need to spend more time on the road on your own to learn the rules and ways of the road

I don't think that Matt meant that it was his fault. He was just emphasising how much you need to be on the ball when driving.

hands up any useless k*****r drivers here ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

no didnt think so ,,,,,,,,,,,everyones an expert

( my hand was up as i was button pushing )

This is something I don't understand. I see a lot of drivers who will indicate to turn off of a main road into a side road but do not indicate when going from a side road to a main road.

It's not as if the indicator lever is particularly stiff or needs superhuman power to turn it. In fact, it is probably one of the easiest things to do whilst driving. You don't even have to take your hand off the wheel.

Steve.

I was about to say a similar thing.

Hands up a driver who has never made a mistake or bad judgement.

It is the ones that never realise they have made a mistake we have to worry about.

Like my pa in law who has never had an accident in 60 years and I say to him

''yes but you left a trail of destruction behind you and you did'nt even notice':gag:

I've made may fair share if errors. But if I drive away thinking 'I ****ed that up, best be more careful in that situation next time' then I will have learned something. If I make a mistake I aso make a point of giving a nod or wave of apology to anyone who I may have inconvenienced. If the choose not to accept that then that is no longer my problem.

HOWEVER - some people when driving you can tell they really don't have a bloody clue - or they don't give a **** about outor road users. I think those are the drivers that are being ranted about.

OK, the woman who pulled out on Sayle probably falls into the 'error' catagory - the true tell is if she does it again or regular - we will never know.

Jeez Matt, I've been driving 14 years and only recently (last year) started getting really p'ssed off with the incredibly low standard of driving these days.

You've only been driving a fortnight and you sound like me !

Theres no hope for ya !:lol:

People do that to my dad in his car, i really don't think a Land Rover is a "wee car" people don't do it much to me because you just sit up their arse and they soon get the message :D

Yeh i love driving and when a old man in a 4.5 bigger car than he can handle pulls out in front of me and goes 25mph all the way along the road it really annoys me

She wasn't thanking you, she was apologising ;)
That IMO is perfectly fine, and *instantly* diffuses any rage I get building up inside of me.

I make errors, I'm only human, but if I inconvenience another driver I always offer a wave of apology or a flash of my hazards to let them know I acknowledge my cockup and I apologise.
Likewise if someone does the same to me, I instantly shrug it off and remember that people do make mistakes.

To be honest, I've been driving for 14 years, clean bill of health, and 6 or 7 of those professionally.
I *still* have problems and confusion at some points on the road to be honest, and I'm quite sharp. So imagine how difficult it might be for someone who isn't. Some of the junctions in this country are a nightmare and completely unclear.
I mean how many times have your driven in the dark and realise, for example, you're in a left turn only lane, and you want to go straight on.....because you can't see the arrow on the road infront due to cars covering it / darkness etc.

Infact, the more I think about it, I see more restriction or no parking signs than I do helpful guiding road signs LOL

Yes there are Matt, and as has been said we all make mistakes, but we need to learn from them. I use the mindset my Dad taught me, assume that everyone is out to get you and drive to allow for that. It's worked so far :D.

I'd like to think I'm a pretty good driver, not brilliant but I've not had an accident for about 15 years. I will sometimes drive at silly speeds but only if it is safe to do so. I will not take uneccessary risks or do stupid overtaking moves.
Oh and it's not just wee cars that get cut up. I drive a Vectra GSI and I sometimes feel I have a big sign that says "Pull out in front of me! I am invisible!"
Most annoying for me are drivers who obviously have no idea of the rules of the road. They can be doing LESS than the speed limit and yet they STILL slam on the anchors at the merest sight of a speed camera! They don't even seem to know the basics like speed limits.
Observation is the key and ALWAYS assume that someone about you IS going to do something really stupid! You usually won't be disappointed...

Bloody lunatics in red Corsa's that get me,wheel in one hand camera in the other

And don't forget the mobile tucked in between shoulder and ear ....

Why do people who drive £30,000 or £40,000 cars not fork out £100 for a car kit of some sort ?

I spend most of my working week travelling the highways and byways and still make the occasional mistake, the trick is not making a big one!
An apology always works.

You do see some horrific driving and it does make me wonder how some drivers ever make it to where they are going:shrug:

You never stop learning when driving, there is always something new to catch you out, observation and spacial awareness is key.

lol, I was reading this earlier, popped out to pick dad up from the station and nearly got killed by idiot drivers... twice!! I'm beginning to think my car has an invisibility button that I've accidentally pressed... people pull out in front of me so often

Because sitting up someone's arse is acceptable?

On a dual carraige way or motorway yeh, middle lane sitters are my faverite people to play around with. you overtake them really slowly and they put there foot down more, haha im not going to be pulled for under taking matey don't bother me byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee vrooooooooooooooooooooooooooom

im so glad your many many miles away from where i live. you think tail gating is acceptable? lets hope the person whos arse you barrel into due to driving too close doesnt have their family in the car with them or infact are too badly hurt. does it not occur to you that somoene who is in the wrong lane on a motorway/due carriageway might be slightly unsure of themselves and suddenly back off/brake/pull over into the right lane (thats why a good gap should be left to allow you time to react in such circumstances) in the time it will take you to take avoiding action you;ll probably have made a darn good attempt at getting into their boot.

i always think with undertaking that if someone is in the wrong lane then the chances are they wont be attentive enough to spot a car undertaking them when they finally decide to pull over. hence why for me its a no no regardless of its legalities.

Driving standards have definitely deteriorated in the 15 years I've been driving, and seems to be worse in the city than in the countryside. I think part of its down to a general lack of respect - good manners seem to be a thing of the past, no more so than on our roads.

The other part of it is down to training in my opinion. The first things my dad did when I passed my test was show me how to control a slide on a car, how to drive on a motorway, how to overtake on single lane roads safely etc. I understand not everybody has access to a parent who used to amateur rally, but look at the Finns and the additional training their test afford compared to ours!!

When I drive (which is everyday usually - I average 23k miles per year) I assume everybody else is out there to make me crash or crash into me, and drive accordingly! :D

Hey matt!
I've got a good trick to stop idiots tailgating you.
if you speed up, they will too. wait till your going fairly quicklu, then (very, very, very gently) rest your left foot slowly depressing the brake pedal (just enough to make your brake lights glow for a second, but not enough to slow you down) and see how hard the idiot behind brakes because he thinks your about to slam yours on for no apparent reason along an open road. it generally works although some muppets need it doing a couple of times before they learn.
The last chav I did this to nearly disappeared in a cloud of his own tyre smoke.
Make sure no-one is behind them, of course (unless it's their equally stupid mate).

(I'd seriously stress that you practice this when there is no-one behind you as your left foot is used to stamping on the clutch pedal, and brakes are usually a lot more sensitive, and keep accelerating ;) )

It doesn't work!

I used to drive a LandRover (S IIa) painted white and I still used to get people pulling out on me. More than once, I got out at traffic lights and told them just how lucky they were not to have a long, horizontal dent in their rear end because series Landy brakes are NOT good!!! (Especially the early diesels - drums all round and no servo... the first application of ABS...)
