I have been given an old theodolite tripod base, and I'm wondering if anybody here has converted one for photography use before?
I have a spare tripod head kicking around, and the theodolite is a really solid base.
I already have a tripod, but it occures to me this could be handy to leave in the car, if it gets nicked I won't loose much sleep over it then.
Any ideas?? Wayne

Not the lightest of tripods for out and about, but no reason why not I'm sure. It will be a solid as a rock platform for sure if it's built like mine (although mine is very much still needed for its intended purpose LOL).

How have you fitted the tripod head? mine has a big-ish hole in the middle with a huge screw thing below, I was thinking of plating over the hole somehow. It's a metal one, a good weight but in nearly new condition. Wayne
