The wonders and possibilities of a cheap Fisheye....Samyang 7.5mm for M4/3.

Sorry if this sounds rude but I am wondering, other than to spam a link to another photographic forum, what the point of this thread is?

Bad show if you ask me

Jesus, lighten up a shade, it's a thread to show what a 7.5mm fisheye can do, have a look maybe even be inspired?

Dave - I rather like that, the fisheyeness isn't as overwhelming as I was expecting, might have to look into a larger format one myself!

Thanks for sharing Dave. Always wondered what that lens would be like. I wouldn't be bothered about the manual focus and i guess that keeps the cost down. Could be tempting!

Seems pretty sharp from those images that you posted.

Looks more like a poorly corrected UWA than a fisheye. Surely the whole point of a fisheye is the fisheyeness?

Not all fisheye lenses result in circular images. There are some that fill the entire frame of the sensor and others that don't. You can get the same effect by taking a wide angle lens for a crop sensor camera and putting it on full frame. I could recreate the circular image by putting my old Sigma 10-20 on a 5D2. (Yes it does fit) You just get epic vignetting.

7.5mm on m4/3 is equivalent of 15mm on full frame, which gives the same 180° angle of view from corner to corner across the frame.

Circular fisheyes which give 180° across the full image circle or the lens fitting entirely inside the frame are usually about half that length - 8mm on FF, which would have to be 4mm on m4/3.

It may look similar, but the image projection of a fisheye lens is different to that of a wide angle rectilinear lens.

Thanks for the clarification Rob.

I hope that was clear. Reading it back I probably should have proofed it a bit better for punctuation

The technical stuff left me feeling a bit cold but I really like the images, might just have a look for one of these but before I do would the effect be lessened as I would have to use an adaptor for my Fuji X-E1 ???????

They make a version for the Samsung NX, Sony E and Fuji X mounts: http://samyang-europe.com/index.php/csc-lenses-mirrorless/samyang-8mm-f-2-8-umc-fish-eye

Thanks applemint and Musicman, excellent information but I'm not sure I want to spend £280 or so just to mess around so if I could pick one up cheaper how would the adaptor effect it ?

On an FF body, the Sigma 10-20 doesn't give a circular image. As you say, you do get epic vignetting but it's not circular. You don't get the exaggerated distortions that a fisheye gives either. IIRC, Sigma do a 4mm fisheye which does give a circular image on a crop body but I doubt it would on a 4/3 one (although it might). I'm a big fan of circular fisheyes and their images are easily cropped to get the rectangular image. I'm also a big fan of well corrected UWAs, especially the exaggerated perspectives they show.

Yeah, you're right Nod. Looking at some of my old images I just have serious vignetting in the corners but they don't link up at any point.

A few years back, I met with Yv and we played with each others toys, here are the results I got using her 10-20 on my D700. At 20mm you get the corner vignetting but at 10mm it gets weird!
