Nikon 300mm 2.8vr

I blamed markjayne for this though. :D

Theres talk of counselling in our household at the moment.:nuts:

Kev.

Very nice :)

Amazing lens! I stupidly sold mine last year as I was spending a lot of time working inJapan and leaving it at home - daft thing to do, I think I sold it for £1500, and its double that now!!!

If I keep saying it, I might start believing it :bonk:

(Congrats!)

Try it with a 1.7x or 2x TC if you have one - 600mm f/5.6 will really give you a nice chufty feeling :)

Fargin' 'ell Kev, I don't know what job you do but I need one like it!

Hi Andy,
The retail goes up to something stupid on Monday. Imports at the moment are about £3200 I think. I couldn't find anyone with one in stock though. (As usual).

Sixteen years of working my nuts off mate, building the business up. Its just about knackered me, so its time to reap the benefits. Hoping to pack it all in within the next 5 years. Want to buy a garage???? :D

Oh and maybe a 200-400mm f4 vr.... ;)

Kev.

I have my own tools...the space would be good...erm......don't think the wife would like it, plus it's a fair way away!

Congratulations Kev.

In a way, I don't blame your Ms. ... your lust for these exotics is a good reason for concern :p

Been there, done that and it spoils you

Kev's lens absolutely blows the 70-200 VR out of the water.. the 300mm f/4 AF-S blows the 70-200 VR out of the water.. and the 300mm f/2.8 VR blows the 300mm f/4 AF-S out of the water.

Pecking order wise... you just can't get much better than Nikon long primes.

I am thinking of this one, i have the afs300 f4 always with the TC1.7 on and could do with a bit more light, I tried the 400 and 600 at focus last week and they are so heavy

The VR is still twice the weight as the 300mm f/4.

I find the 1.7x quite good on my 300mm f/4. but on a 300mm f/2.8 VR, you can easily shoot wide open with the 1.7x, whereas on the 300mm f/4 you are probably stopping down a bit.

I'm buying the 500mm f/4 VR first week March, be interesting to see how good that is.

Andy, you really have a knack for selling some of your best kit .. and then buying them all-over again! I just saw your thread selling the Nikon 17-55 f/2.8 and was wondering how soon would you post a "Wanted" for such a lens :p

On the topic of this lens ... I am curious, what's the difference between the two different 300 f/2.8?

On CameraPriceBuster there are two such lenses. Both are AF-S (though one is AF-S II, I have no idea there was such a thing as AF-S I to get a version II).; but the odd thing is that the one with VR is a whole £600 cheaper

Just before the price increase - lucky beggar.

I am not usually this envious but my husband is doing something similar to me, two lenses this month:D

ENJOY!

Yeah, it was really silly.. but I was living in Tokyo and leaving it at home in my wardrobe for months on end. Never used it enough.. took a hit selling that though. Stupid! :bonk:

Good buy, best investment I made was buying one, I hear the RRP is going to £4999.99 from the 1st.

You still need a Bush Hawk though, time to sweet talk the other half lol!!!!!!!!

I need your job, exotic travel and exotic lenses....sign me up

I have got the 1.7 Andy. was planning on using this set up on the hills in Wales. Markjayne seems to get away with the 300mm regularly up there. He sometimes use the 1.4 also.
This lens feels so much lighter than my 200-400mm. Hence me thinking about selling it. But then again, I would only wish I hadn't in a while......

Ermmm........... I was JUST looking at them! 320D?? ;) Do they make that much of a difference?
Small stuff like that i dont need permission.

Guilty as charged.... 14-24mm, 24-70mm and now this all in about a month or so.

I do expect her to contact the forum and have me banned from the for sale section.
Maybe I should start by getting rid of the 14-24mm. What do you think? ;)

Well - if it does carry on in the present vein you will be giving PD a run for his money in the gear stakes pretty soon.

Then again, I may be underestimating just HOW much kit PD has

As for the 14-24...I'm gonna tell my mum you're picking on me again :help:

No one and I mean NO ONE can keep up with Andy! I'm just building my kit up to keep long term hopefully. Andy would be better off hiring his kit for the length of time he keeps it... :D:lol::lol:

I do have quite a lot of stuff

TBH I don't really enjoying lugging really bulky lenses (24-70, 14-24, 300mm VR), so it tends to be the big mofos I sell, and I tend to prefer lighter options like Tamron 28-75 or Tamron 17-50! Having said that my glass collection I think is about the same as yours, although my 300mm is only the f/4 :)

The 500mm f/4 VR I'm collecting next week will be interesting!!! :suspect:

Well its rather a spangley collection of glass you are collecting there Kev and I've seen the results of what you can do with it too so...kudos

Yes mate, the 320D, save yourself some money , don't buy the cable from there, 47 euros what a rip off!!!!!!!!, make one from a cheap wired shutter release from Ebay, as you only need the cable and a 3.5mm stereo jack plug.

Kev one thing to watch out for with the 300 2.8, is to keep your hand away from the focus ring, as soon as you touch it, the lens goes into manual focus mode (not good when your panning on a fast jet :(), it caught me out a few times when I first started to use mine.

Thanks for that. I didnt know that! Suppose I'm going to have to read the manual now!

Still lots to learn. ;)

What a lovely Nikon Bag...................:D

That is one uber lens - I'd love one, maybe if I cancel my wedding in October and divert funds?!

It just dawned on me

It's amazing .. Nikon charge you close to £4,000 for that (bag at £3,500 and plastic toy for  £500).

Tell you what, I will give you £600 for the plastic toy and you can keep that expensive bag :p

Sigma next?.....

Congrats and get some use out of it.......

You know what? I think the bag is amazing!! Best lens case I've had that comes with the lens.
Mind you, this one is quite nice too...
